- 11:03, 11th March 2019
Apple's Jade for Champion Hurdle glory

There isn't a more eagerly-anticipated day in the racing calendar than day one of the Cheltenham Festival. The 'greatest show on turf' has come round again and it all kicks off on Tuesday afternoon.

Cheltenham Day 1 Accumulator Betting Tips

We'll have a daily acca bet across each of the four days in the Cotswolds, starting with these Cheltenham tips for Champion Hurdle Day.

On the latest Cheltenham betting our day one acca pay out at odds of 23/1.

Champion Hurdle Betting Tips

(Tues, 15:30)

Apple's Jade @ 9/4 - BET NOW

This is the best Champion Hurdle we've seen for some time. Buveur D'Air bids to join the two-mile greats by landing this prize for the third time on the trot but it won't be easy for Nicky Henderson's star. He has never quite got the accolades and many argue his defeats of My Tent Or Yours and Melon as runners-up in this race amount to sub-standard renewals.

His Fighting Fifth demolition of Samcro at Newcastle this season finally cut him some slack but that rival has proved to be all wrong this season with his efforts since. Defeat to Verdana Blue in the Christmas Hurdle ensured the doubters returned and a facile Contenders Hurdle win at Sandown since hasn't sent them away.

This is the hardest race of Buveur D'Air's senior career, make no mistake. Laurina, unbeaten and already a Festival winner, is a big threat but the Cheltenham odds show that Apple's Jade is the one they all should worry about.

She evidently wasn't right here last March (in season) but has proved better than ever this term with four very easy wins. She goes over any trip and is tactically versatile. At seven-years-old, it isn't any leap of faith to say she is now in the prime of her career.

She blitzed the field to win the Irish Champion last month, Melon amongst them, and can make full use of her 7lb allowance to conquer Buveur D'Air now.

Mares' Hurdle Betting Tips

(Tues, 14:10)

Benie Des Dieux @ 5/6 - BET NOW

Willie Mullins has owned this race since its inception, winning nine of the 11 renewals so far. The Closutton maestro fires five of the 15 contenders and none can better the claims of last year's winner Benie Des Dieux.

She beat an under-par Apple's Jade into third spot then and remains unbeaten since arriving with Mullins from France. She is equally adept over hurdles and fences and her form sets her apart from these rivals.

In most cases, it would be a worry to note that she hasn't run since the Festival last March but not with this trainer. This is a trick Mullins routinely executed with Quevega and nobody is better placed to pull it off.

Cheltenham's all-time winning-most rider, Ruby Walsh has pinpointed this mare as his best chance of a win this year. That's suffice to ensure she is a welcome addition to our racing tips on day one.

National Hunt Challenge Cup Betting Tips

(Tues, 17:30)

Ballyward @ 7/2 - BET NOW

The four-miler for amateur riders closes the card on day one, and hopefully our acca can survive the marathon via Ballyward.

He's the sole representative for Mullins in this race and will be ridden by the trainer's son, Patrick, who bids to become the first three-time winner of this race having given Rathvinden a perfectly timed steer to win last year.

Ballyward has the all-important course form having finished fourth in last year's Albert Bartlett over three-miles and surpassed that effort over fences with his last-time-out Naas Grade 3 success.

He looks made for this out-and-out stamina test and can give the trainer/jockey combe a third National Hunt Challenge Cup win in seven years.
