“We've now reached the final day of the November Meeting at Cheltenham, but today we have the most high class races of all three days including an Arkle trial, the Shloer Chase and the Greatwood hurdle!” JJ

Cheltenham 3.00

The feature race of the day in the Cotswolds is the Greatwood Hurdle, a handicap run over two miles. The money has come in a big way for JENKINS (5/1) and I had to weigh up whether he was still worth my cash at a short enough 5/1. But, even though he's been backed off the boards, I can see him going off shorter still on the day. The Henderson gelding was being touted as a potential Supreme winner last summer after going very close in a hot Punchestown bumper. Despite a couple of jumping errors on his hurdling debut at Newbury he hacked up ahead of a couple of extremely useful types including Bags Groove, Captain Forez and Pingshou. After that he clearly wasn't himself at Kempton, and he won a nothing race at Ffos Las the last time we saw him. On that key piece of Newbury form he's absolutely thrown in here off of 137 so should go close.

If a 5/1 favourite in an 16 runner race doesn't interest you my second pick OLD GUARD (25/1) comes in at a massive 25/1. The six-year-old was highly tried last season including in the grade one Aintree Hurdle where he finished fourth of six. But before that he was a staying on seventh of 25 in the ultra-competitive Coral Cup, and he comes here on a pound lower mark. With the excellent Bryony Frost taking off a further five, he starts to looks far better handicapped. What's more, he possesses an excellent Cheltenham record with three wins from six runs.
