“We hit profit again yesterday thanks to an incredibly game performance from Ask The Weatherman at Exeter! There's flat racing today from Nottingham and jumps action from Chepstow in Wales and Musselburgh up in Scotland.” JJ

Musselburgh 1.15

We'll kick it all off with this class four novice handicap chase, which is not normally the kind of race I target, but with eight runners and a 10/11 favourite it has a nice each way feel.

The mare I'm going to be backing is DEVITO'SGOLDENGIRL (10/1) for Lucinda Russell. After she won her point-to-point by six lengths she went off the boil slightly, but ran her best race over hurdles when staying on into second behind the talented Knockmaole Boy at Perth two starts back.

The ground was to heavy last time when tried over three miles, so the step back to two miles four should suit, especially as she was slightly outpaced over two.

Fences were always going to be the end game and at 10/1 she's worth a stab each way.

Chepstow 2.00

There are a couple of interesting contests at Chepstow today but I'll concentrate on this class three novice handicap chase.

Muffins For Tea did well to get as close as he did after getting outpaced at Exeter last time and this softer ground looks sure to suit.

But I prefer the chance of SWIFT CRUSADOR (10/3) for Evan Williams and Adam Wedge.

The gelding by Kay Tara only ran once over hurdles last season; a thirty length win at Ffos Las. Some would say he was a fortuitous winner as Gavin Sheehan fell off the short priced favourite close to the line, but the race wasn't over and the selection was travelling by far the better all the way down the straight.

Anyway, that winner went off 4/11, so the fact that it would have been close is a testament to Swift Crusador's talent.

He should be much more at home over the bigger obstacles here, and whilst he'll be better over further in time, he could be too classy for these on chasing debut.

Nottingham 2.15

The feature on the flat today is the class two Lady Cecil Handicap run over five furlongs.

Clem Fandago looks reasonably handicapped based on old form and his recent efforts in listed contests.

However, the David Evans trained GRACIOUS JOHN (5/1) shot back to form last time and has proven to be capable off of marks higher than this in the past.

One such effort came in this very race last season, which he won under this rider off of seven pounds higher.

As mentioned earlier he managed to get back to winning way last time at Leicester under John Egan and as Katherine Glennister takes off seven and he was only put up two, he's essentially five pounds better off than for that win!
