Another busy day containing three afternoon cards with the feature event being the flat meeting at Leicester supported by Redcar and over the jumps at beautiful Worcester. There is also a late afternoon/early evening card at Perth. Here are my best bets of the day – PJ.
Leicester Tips –
3.50 – Leicester – I thought this was a nice race to start our betting profile in with the top weight A STAR IN MY EYE fancied to defy a 6lbs penalty under Ryan Moore.
Reverting to front running tactics again, the four-year-old galloped her rivals into the ground in a class four event last time out, bouncing off the fast surface and looking better the further she went. There is a strong case to suggest that the daughters of Authorized is still fairly well weighted as she is only lightly raced and that was the first time in her career he had made all over 12 furlongs on sound terrain.
A nice stamp of a filly, I am slightly surprised that she has not been stepped up to a mile and three quarters, but the 12 furlongs here does take some getting and she may prove too strong in the closing stages for Mustadaam and High Church. The former looks the bigger danger having been brought along relatively slowly by Brian Meehan and he finally got off the mark at the fifth time of asking over course and distance.
BET NOW – A STAR IN MY EYE
4.20 – Leicester – I thought that the mare Askaud was quite interesting off a rating of 89, but I am worried about the drying ground and for that reason I am swayed in the direction of SECRETINTHEPARK. Ed McMahon’s charge is a difficult horse to weigh up as six furlongs always seems to take him out of his comfort zone, particularly through the early part of the race, but seven can sometimes seem a shade too far. However, he has twice won over this distance at the beginning of his career and his recent close up third behind the classy Morache Music represents a near career best effort for the son of Sakhee’s Secret.
Flow and Outback Traveller are closely matched on their Yarmouth run behind Prince’s Trust although the first named is just preferred as he would probably have needed the outing. Old Kakatosi will benefit from a fast run race and is still fairly weighted on his best form despite a 3lbs penalty for his Newmarket success.
BET NOW – SECRETINTHEPARK
Redcar Tips –
3.30 – Redcar – This may well be the difficult race of the day, but I think has a rather nice betting shape to it with quite a few of these hugely out of form and not worthy of even a second glance.
Despite a poor run last time out on the all-weather I thought it was worth giving another chance to BLACK DOUGLAS to bounce back to the winning form he showed at Newcastle two outings back. In fact you can safely forgive that last run as he fell out of the stalls at Wolverhampton and without being unduly punished made eye-catching late headway into the mid division.
Yes he is 6lbs higher in a better race, but there should be a load of speed on here to carry him through this contest and I fancy he will go well at a double figure price.
Because his betting odds will be fairly big I wanted to have a second investment in this big field handicap and think that ELLAND ALLY should be supported.
At his best off a red hot pace, the six-year-old has been running a bit better than his recent form figures suggest and although he only has a maiden success to his name, he has been placed off a mark as high as 81 and runs off 68 here. His last two runs at Doncaster and Newcastle out him right in the mix here.
Lucky Lodge ran a cracker behind Mission Impossible at Newcastle last time out and his turn is close at hand, but there can be little doubt that the four-year-old needs some juice in the ground to return to his best form this autumn.
BET NOW – BLACK DOUGLAS
BET NOW – ELLAND ALLY (e/w)
