With meetings at Newmarket and Haydock on Friday evening, we preview the best of the action with selections and analysis from three races.
Bit Of A Quirke to Win and Each-way @ 9/2 - BET NOW
Bit Of A Quirke may have failed in his five-timer bid last time out at Beverley, but he was drawn widest of the field that day in stall seven.
He got trapped out wide for the majority of the contest and he had previously looked most progressive winning in Class 4 company at Chester on his final winning run.
Back down into a Class 5 again on Friday, the five-year-old is likely to benefit from the services of Champion Jockey Silvestre De Sousa for the first time here, a fine rider, and it’s conceivable that there’s a fair amount of improvement still left in the gelding.
It would be a surprise if he didn’t get his own way up front again here, as the only confirmed front-runner in the line-up and the yard have had two winners from their last 10 runners in recent weeks with their horses running well generally.
His form at Beverley should hold him in good stead for his first start at Newmarket given the undulations on both courses and he should probably be closer in price to early favourite Love To Breeze.
That rival certainly would appear to be the main danger to the selection arriving in decent form with his unexposed profile but with showers forecast, it’s unlikely this son of Sepoy will want any rain to fall as his sole win came on firm ground at Bath in May.
Red Starlight to Win and Each-way @ 9/2 - BET NOW
Ryan Moore teams up with his former boss Richard Hannon in the fillies’ handicap on the card and his mount Red Starlight looks over-priced at time of writing.
This daughter of Pivotal was mightily impressive over course and distance back in June and a 3lb rise for that effort looked lenient going into her next race at Haydock.
She was a beaten favourite that day, but it was a messy race in which the winner made all the running and it’s a fair assumption that this lightly raced filly has more to come from this sort of mark in handicaps.
With the step back up in trip likely to suit and her versatility to ground conditions (she has won on soft and good to firm), she looks like the value selection in a winnable race.
Iconic Choice to Win and Each-way @ 7/1 - BET NOW
Tom Dascombe has a fine record at Haydock and he had winners at the Lancashire course on Thursday. With that in mind, Iconic Choice looks worthy of each-way support in the Nursery on the card.
The filly ran well on handicap debut at Hamilton last time when probably given a little too much to do and the juvenile should be capable of making her presence felt now over this longer trip.
