Flat racing on Friday comes from York, Sandown, Goodwood and Chepstow and is supplemented with jumps action from Aintree and Newton Abbot, as well as a Flat card from Fairyhouse in Ireland.
Our racing tips take us first to the Knavesmire where last summer's Sussex Stakes winner could have his hands full.
Arod to Win and Each Way @ 15/8 - BET NOW
Arod was a very promising sort during 2015 for trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam before embarking on a stint of globetrotting. A son of Teofilo, he ran in some top races in Australia, American and Asia but now finds himself back on British shores under the eye of David Simcock.
His first start back brought with it a narrow defeat on the all-weather at Kempton but Arod has since landed a Listed Windsor race over this trip in good style, leading from pillar to post and sticking on gamely at the death to hold out. He gives away a 3lb penalty now for that win but, from stall one, can likely dictate again in front for Oisin Murphy and is fancied to land the racing odds again.
Here Comes When won the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last summer in atrocious conditions (narrowly beating mighty miler Ribchester) and sets the standard on ratings here. Andrew Balding's runner is at his best when the mud is flying and that isn't likely here, with 'firm' in the overnight description. In the conditions, Arod is the one to beat in this five-runner event.
Preening to Win and Each Way @ 3/1 - BET NOW
A lightly-raced Dutch Art filly, she's likely to have plenty more to offer moving into handicaps for the first time. Preening made just two appearances as a juvenile, taking a Kempton maiden on the AW over 7f in determined style on the second of them.
Returning to action last month at Thirsk, she found only the potentially smart New Graduate too strong. Preening was well held there but she did manage to put significant daylight between herself and the rest of the chasing pack.
James Fanshawe has his team in decent form right now and the booking of Ryan Moore here looks ominous. The chief danger on paper appears to be the Clive Cox-trained Autumn Leaves, who was a rallying winner of a maiden at Salisbury in August when last spotted. Both have potential but race fitness might just win the day for Preening.
Iceni to Win and Each Way @ 8/1 - BET NOW
Henry De Bromhead's Famous Name filly is one to pay attention to in the racing betting. She's only had six starts, three of them this spring, since switching to turf. The last two of those, at Cork and Tipperary, have been laden with promise. She has been ridden prominently, without leading, in both and finished a good second to Summerseat Dream last time out over five furlongs.
The step back up to six furlongs now is not expected to cause any concerns but much more interesting is the prospect of racing on some decent ground for the first time. There's a fair chance it will spark further improvement and, that being the case, Iceni should go close to landing this prize. Her trainer is also going well and boasts a 15% strike rate from his previous 40 runners.
