The Sandown Eclipse meeting is always a season highlight and we have selections and analysis for three of the races on Day One of the meeting.

13:20 Sandown

Shamshon to Win and Each-way @ 15/2 - BET NOW

Shamshon may not have won a race for some time now but he shaped like a return to form was imminent over 5f in a Newmarket Handicap last time out and he’s taken to get his head back in front here.

Now 12lb lower than his last winning handicap mark and a whopping 17lb lower than his highest winning mark in a handicap, there’s no doubting that if he can return to form he will prove very hard to beat here.

He represents a yard in good form at present and the booking of Champion Jockey Silvestre De Sousa is certainly eye-catching given that he’s never ridden the horse before. The Brazillian can often find the key to complicated sorts and given his workable draw here (3), he’s expected to be seen at his best and get this geldings head back in front.

The main danger could be the horse that finished a place in front of him at Newmarket last time out, Jashma. The four-year-old already has a course and distance win to his name but he had it all his own way that day and he may struggle to confirm the form with the selection.

Vibrant Chords is another that couldn’t be ruled out on just his second start since wind surgery and he shaped with significant promise on his return at Chelmsford last time out.

Country Rose to Win and Each-way @ 8/1 - BET NOW

Country Rose looks overpriced in the Listed sprint over five furlongs and she ran with great credit in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot last time out, a Group 2 contest. That would appear to be smart form and showed an excellent attitude when making all to win at Lingfield the time before.

She’s expected to revert to front-running tactics here and given that she’s perfectly drawn (1) and she’s the only pace angle in the race, she’s likely to prove hard to peg back if no worse for her Royal Ascot efforts.

Plenty of her rivals met at Royal Ascot in a Listed race last time but with many of them failing to fire, the selection looks like an appealing alternative at decent odds.

Pivoine to Win and Each-way @ 4/1 - BET NOW

There was plenty to like about the way Pivoine won last time out over course and distance and there’s every chance a 10lb rise underestimates his ability on return here.

There appeared to be little fluke about the way he opened up to win by six lengths and given that was just his third start for this yard, there could be more to come. It’s a surprise he’s not favourite for this and there’s some value in his odds of 4/1.
