Rob Eddy's Racing Tips: Monday 16th April

Bainne on his way to victory at the Curragh

After the excitement of the Grand National, it is back to normal this Monday afternoon. Four meetings are scheduled across Britain and Ireland, though the Flat card at Windsor is subject to an early morning inspection on raceday.

Kelso provides the jumps fare in the UK, with Tramore over the obstacles in Ireland and a decent offering on the Flat at Leopardstown.

Geronimo to Win and Each Way @ 5/2 - BET NOW

Sandy Thomson may have been out of luck at Aintree on Saturday with Seeyouatmidnight but he's straight back into the racing tips this afternoon with Geronimo, who looks set to break his duck over timber at the fourth time of asking.

The lightly-raced gelding has settled for second spot in all three starts over hurdles so far but his closest call came last time out at Carlisle when stepped up in trip from the 2m4½f he'd been competing at previously.

Amateur pilot Alex Chadwick was on board then and neither horse nor rider were helped when badly impeded by a loose horse having hit the front at the third-last flight. It was arguably to their credit that the partnership went down only a half-length at the line.

The front pair had drawn away some 20-odd lengths on that occasion so a rise of 3lb looks about fair. With this trip again to suit, Geronimo can continue to build in this sphere and another step forward will make him hard to beat now.

My Silver Nails to Win and Each Way @ 14/1 - BET NOW

The filly failed in her only previous attempt over this 7f trip but that came at the end of a long two-year-old campaign last October and she looks worth another try. The manner in which she scored over 6f on soft going at Fairyhouse in August certainly hinted that this longer trip could be in her wheelhouse.

After a recent pipe-opener at Naas over the minimum distance, she should be cherry-ripe for this mission and is now rated just 2lb above that previous winning mark.

A year older and stronger now, she appears underestimated in the racing odds going back over 7f, largely due to that end-of-term flop here in the autumn.

It has to be worth noting that connections step her right up in distance on just her second run of the new campaign and she is fancied to justify that decision.

Bainne to Win and Each Way @ 10/1 - BET NOW

It is a minor concern that this daughter of Strategic Prince arrives here without a run but that is factored into the early racing betting seemingly, given that she was sent off 4/1 favourite for this contest a year ago before finishing third.

She comes back here now rated 4lb lower and has to be given solid claims of at least making the frame once more at double-figure odds.

Bainne has been mostly consistent on turf, with a record of eight wins from 43 starts, and a further 11 placed efforts to add to that.

With the likely market leader Luna's Luck never having run on turf before, this ground is surely questionable for him, so it's worth taking a punt that Bainne strips fit for action on her seasonal reappearance.
