Here are our selections and analysis from three of the races from either side of the Irish Sea on Monday afternoon.
Alighting to Win and Each Way @ 3/1 – BET NOW
Joseph O’Brien has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months in both Flat racing and Jumps and he has a fascinating contender to kick off the card at Leopardstown on Monday.
Alighting has shown enough ability to suggest she’s up to winning a mares’ maiden hurdle at some point and she has her best opportunity to date in this 10-runner affair.
The daughter of Kayf Tara ran a huge race at Fairyhouse in January last year when finishing third of 14 in a maiden hurdle and she proved that was no fluke when finishing third of six in a Listed Hurdle at Punchestown next time out.
While she failed to build on that in four subsequent starts, the most recent two of which came over fences, she shaped much better on her return to hurdles last time out at Clonmel when sixth of 18 with a 7lb conditional jockey on board.
The booking of Rachel Blackmore for this mare looks like a positive, given how many winners she’s already ridden for Gigginstown this season, and this race looks like a particularly winnable affair with many of her rivals arriving in poor form.
Whatucallher can be considered the main danger given her consistent profile and she ran well again despite finishing a beaten favourite at Punchestown last time out.
However, with the rain that arrived on Sunday, conditions may have gone against the five-year-old and Alighting is the more appealing play at the prices.
Aguerooo to Win and Each Way @ 6/1 – BET NOW
On the twilight card from Wolverhampton, Aguerooo is an interesting runner in the Class 5 Betway Handicap sprint.
The son of Monsieur Bond hasn’t been seen to best effect on his last couple of starts but he remains remarkably well handicapped on his form from relatively recently and he wasn’t disgraced at Chelmsford on Saturday.
Charlie Wallis’ gelding has run well at this course before, despite never quite managing to get his head in front and the all-weather specialist gets the services of Franny Norton again, a jockey who was on board for his last two wins.
Good Boy Bobby to Win and Each Way @ 5/4 – BET NOW
Good Boy Bobby has made a highly promising start to his career with four wins from his six career starts and the son of Flemensfirth had excuses when not at his best on heavy ground when a beaten favourite at Ffos Las in November.
Nigel Twiston Davies’ runner has been freshened up since that effort and is expected to resume his progress on quicker ground that looks sure to suit.
River Bray shouldn’t be underestimated on his second start since wind surgery but there are few other dangers in the race and Good Boy Bobby is a worthy favourite.
