The July Cup takes centre stage as Newmarket's three-day meeting concludes and what a race is in prospect for race fans.
Sands Of Mali to Win and Each Way @ 8/1 - BET NOW
Sands Of Mail was a fast-finishing second in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last month and left the impression he could overturn form with the winner, Eqtidaar.
Richard Fahey's charge was caught in the wrong group, losing his place three furlongs down and having to make up a lot of ground late on as a result. He flew home and comfortably beat everything bar the winner, which had hit the front and established a decent lead a good way out.
Sands Of Mali tends to race close to the pace and should do so here under Paul Hanagan. He's been progressing this season and is around three points bigger in the racing odds compared to his Ascot conqueror.
Blue Point is the stand-out contender here on his King's Stand Stakes win last month although he must prove he can do it over six furlongs in a Group One this time (up from 5f). US Navy Flag, Limato, Redkirk Warrior and more have their concerns, ensuring Sands Of Mali looks a fair each-way shout.
Quorto to Win and Each Way @ 9/4 - BET NOW
The Charlie Appleby-trained Quorto looked a horse to follow when making a winning debut at this track recently. A colt by Dubawi, he is out of a Mount Nelson mare who placed in the Oaks and Irish Oaks and should be progressive this summer.
He scored in what looked to be an above-average novice event last time, form that looks better with the runner-up running an excellent second at this meeting on Thursday. It has already been a flying summer for Appleby and the local handler can land this Group 2 Superlative Stakes given he appears to have another useful colt on his books for Godolphin.
Arbalet to Win and Each Way @ 4/1 - BET NOW
Over at Chester, Hugo Palmer's Arbalet is the selection in the Listed Corbettsports City Plate Stakes. Last season Arbalet kept some decent company, running sound races behind the likes of Hey Gaman and, notably, this year's Derby hero Masar at Sandown in the Solario Stakes in the autumn.
He was given a wind operation over the winter but appeared not to relish a step up in distance on his return at Newmarket. That was corrected with a win over this 7f trip at Carlisle in May. He has since contested the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, a race won emphatically by Expert Eye.
That was a one-horse race essentially but Arbalet caught the eye in finishing fifth, close enough to the runner-up. He is eased in grade now and also gets a handy a weight-for-age allowance that sees him on positive terms. He is worth supporting in the racing betting.
