There’s another action-packed Saturday afternoon of racing, with the day's main events taking place before the big 2018 World Cup clash between England and Sweden in Russia.

Sandown 14.10

Saxon Warrior to Win and Each Way @ 7/2 - BET NOW

It has to strike as a bit odd that Aidan O'Brien is allowing Saxon Warrior go to war in Group 1 company on consecutive Saturday afternoons. A week on from his Irish Derby third, the 2000 Guineas winner will drop in trip for the first time since his Classic success at Newmarket in early May over a mile.

Saxon Warrior didn't appear to relish the trip in the Derby at Epsom last month, despite some of his allowance for a poor draw, while nothing he did at the Curragh last weekend screamed that he truly did want the mile and a half on offer.

The Ballydoyle team have assessed their charge and elect to come here for the Eclipse, back down one mile and two furlongs. Donnacha O'Brien showed once more in that Irish Derby that he is a much-improved rider and, with the trip in their favour, he and Saxon Warrior can restore some dented pride by reclaiming superiority over Masar.

Charlie Appleby's runner was well beaten in the Guineas but landed an authoritative success at Epsom. They meet on middle ground now and, at the racing odds, a chance is given to Saxon Warrior.

Sandown 12.20

Haddaf to Win and Each Way @ 7/1 - BET NOW

James Tate's Dawn Approach gelding scored over C&D last month at Listed level, doing rather well to get up in the circumstances. He was towards the rear early in the contest and had to come between horses in order to get into a challenging position, and even then he was forced to switch late in the piece before getting up close home.

He steps up into Group race company but that win was as good as anything he has achieved so far and the three-year-old retains the potential for doing better after just 10 runs so far on turf. The ground will suit and we know he operates over the track and trip, while the chunky three-year-old allowance isn't to be sniffed at either.

Haydock 13.10

Precious Ramotswe to Win and Each Way @ 6/1 - BET NOW

The Lancashire Oaks takes place at Haydock on Saturday afternoon and while the front end of the market is congested, we'll side with John Gosden's filly Precious Ramotswe to get the job done. The daughter of Nathaniel has been beaten only once in her career so far, when she went across to France late last year.

That run aside, she is a perfect four from four on these shores and looks a fair proposition to mount a solid challenge on this step up in class. Precious Ramotswe was a Group 3 winner over 1m6f at York in May when last spotted, taking that step up in class and trip in her element, with a game and gutsy success. She gets a tongue-tie added now and won't go down without a real fight for last year's winning trainer.
