Qutob to Win and Each Way @ 5/1 – BET NOW

The opening race on the third day of Newmarket's Craven Meeting can go the way of the Charles Hills-trained Qutob, who made the frame on all three starts last season.

While connections may be disappointed the colt didn't break his maiden, having run well when a short-head second in a good-ground, 6f maiden at Nottingham on debut in early August, he did follow that up with two good efforts, including when 1L second over the same course and distance when sent off odds-on later that month.

Both of those efforts came on a sound surface, and while the selection finished a decent third in a soft-ground, 6f novice contest at York in October, that form was a bit below his two previous efforts and the forecast good-to-firm going here looks likely to suit.

The selection is bred to appreciate this extra furlong, and while this is normally a competitive maiden, he has shown good form so far and is taken to make a winning seasonal debut under Jim Crowley.

Ideological to Win and Each Way @ 7/2 – BET NOW

Roger Varian has his string in good form currently and the Newmarket handler comes into this contest with a 26% strike-rate (6/23) in recent weeks, and among those winners are four successes in the last few days.

Ideological has had just the four runs so far, winning twice over 1m on the all-weather at Kempton last year, including when sent off odds-on to defy a penalty at the end of October.

The runner-up on that occasion, Robert L'Echelle, has franked the form by registering a success subsequently, while the selection followed that victory up with a good 2L third in a small-field handicap over an extended 1m on handicap debut at Wolverhampton the following month.

The slight drop back in distance shouldn't inconvenience and racing off the same mark as for that Wolverhampton third, she is the selection to make a winning turf debut on her return from a break.

16:30 Clonmel

Latoyah Of North to Win and Each Way @ 11/2 – BET NOW

Michael Mulvany's charge started her career in bumpers, and while she showed ability in that sphere, it took until her eighth career start, and her handicap debut, for the daughter of Mustameet to record her first placed effort.

That particular outing came in a 19-runner, 2m handicap hurdle on good going at Naas in early January, while the six-year-old proved that effort was no fluke when finishing a good third on yielding going over an extended 2m at Down Royal later that month.

Returning from a break, the mare showed up well when sent off a big price for a maiden over around this trip on yielding-to-soft going at Gowran Park when making her flat debut nine days ago.

Racing from mid-division, Gary Carroll's mount kept on well for third in a 17-runner maiden, and with improvement likely, she is taken to record a first career victory in this competitive-looking maiden contest.
