With reduced field sizes at Southwell, Thursday’s selections and analysis comes from Chelmsford and Wincanton.
Cristal Pallas Cat to Win and Each Way @ 12/1 - BET NOW
It can be worth siding with the more experienced when looking for winners in apprentice rider only races, and Rhiain Ingram fits that bill in the Class 6 Apprentice Handicap that opens the card at Chelmsford.
She rides for her father, Epsom trainer Roger Ingram, in the race and will be high on confidence, having visited the winner’s enclosure at Lingfield on Wednesday afternoon.
Her mount returned to form after a blip on his reappearance at Kempton, when third behind the re-opposing Irish Times over course and distance last time out, and he gets a 3lb swing in the weights with that rival for a defeat of less than two lengths.
The gelding’s sole success came on Polytrack, when winning at Kempton over seven furlongs just over a year ago, and he looks very well-handicapped now racing off a 13lb lower handicap mark.
He was supported in the market before his run last time out, suggesting that connections may be aware how well-handicapped he is, and this jockey was on board for his sole career success. With a low draw (4), he makes plenty of each-way appeal once again.
Naralsaif will be many punters’ idea of the main danger and the daughter of Arcano arrives here bidding for a four-timer. However, a 4lb rise makes life tougher for the mare and she’s drawn wide for this race (10), often a negative at this course.
Grey Britain to Win and Each Way @ 3/1 - BET NOW
Later on the card in the stayers’ event, Grey Britain has to be of interest, despite being denied in his hat-trick bid at Kempton last time out. The gelding brings the highest official rating in to the race, and while he’s forced to concede weight to his main rival Elegiac, that colt has a 117-day absence to overcome.
Grey Britain was done no favours by being held up in a steadily-run race last time, but there was no suggestion his form had dipped and he can regain the winning thread, with all-weather specialist Adam Kirby booked to ride again.
Zamparelli to Win and Each Way @ 7/1 - BET NOW
The handicap chase on the Wincanton card is just about the best jumps race Thursday has to offer and Zamparelli can resume his progress after a promising enough reappearance after a 105-day absence at Huntingdon last time.
Entitled to have needed that run, he plugged on well enough and a 2lb drop from the handicapper looks lenient. He had looked an exciting prospect over fences last that a year ago, before a mixed autumn campaign, and there’s every chance he can improve for the sizable step up in trip here.
