With less than a week now until the Cheltenham Festival, punters could be forgiven for keeping their powder dry. However, with plenty of decent betting opportunities around, we are looking to boost the kitty at Catterick and Kempton on Wedensday as the build-up continues to jump racing's main event.
Via Delle Volte to win @ 15/8 - BET NOW
Tom Lacey has his string in incredible form as his seven winners from 20 runners in February show. Via Delle Volte is his only runner at Catterick on Wednesday, which in itself is significant given the 400-mile round trip, but this four-year-old very much stands out from a form perspective also.
Well backed, she made an impressive start to her hurdling career when winning at Doncaster in December. Next she was pitched into Listed level at the same venue and ran with great credit when second to the useful Giving Glances. Her latest run at Ludlow was disappointing, of that there is no disputing, but she is forgiven that one below-par run given her earlier form looks a cut above these rivals.
Greybougg to win and each-way @ 8/1 - BET NOW
Few horses in training go off as fast and furious as Greybougg does so a drop back to the bare 2m could be very much in the favour of Nigel Hawke’s trailblazing grey.
Admittedly, he hasn’t won over fences since his novice season back in 2017 but has been pretty lightly raced since. His two runs this season have been a little below what is required but his speed was blunted at Doncaster last time by a couple of errors at crucial points as he eventually faltered into third.
He now drops into class 4 company for the first time and is 3lb lower than the mark which he absolutely bolted up off as a novice. Halcyon Days likes to front run too but that rival isn’t overly reliant on leading so it’s hoped Greybougg can get an uncontested lead and use his stamina to good effect. Rain is forecast and the more that falls the better for his chances too.
Matterhorn to win @ 5/4 - BET NOW
Matterhorn has quickly made up for lost time having not debuted until last October by winning five of his seven starts to date, including all four handicaps contested.
His latest win by over 3L at Chelmsford may have been the most impressive yet and he now looks on the cusp of being a Group class performer. Four of his wins have come over 1m but he clearly had no issues in his lone start over 1m2f either, as a ready win at Lingfield showed two starts back. His pedigree actually offers encouragement that he may even stay 1m4f.
Execeutive Force, seeking a five-timer of his own, will be a popular rival and he is one of three others in this contest to win their last start. However, none have the scope of Matterhorn, who is taken to land this en-route to contesting Pattern level races.
