With Royal Ascot just around the corner we take a look at some of the bigger priced contenders, including a couple of international raiders who may spring a surprise in competitive contests.

King Stand Stakes

(Tues, 15:40)

Finsbury Square win and each-way @ 33/1 - BET NOW

Trainer Mauricio Delcher-Sanchez is no stranger to Royal Ascot success having saddled Equiano to glory in the King’s Stand Stakes of 2008 and he could look for a second victory in the race when he saddles the Siyouni gelding Finsbury Square in the Tuesday feature.

The six-year-old looked an improved performer when winning on soft ground at Chantilly over the 5f trip of the King’s Stand earlier this month. His form of last year would leave him a fair bit behind the principles here and while he ran well when finishing fifth in the 6f Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot a year ago. he was comprehensively beaten by Battaash in a Group 1 contest at Chantilly in October.

Crucially the selection changed yards this spring and with that in mind there’s every chance that Finsbury Square can improve on his showing from last year and at 33/1 he looks worth an each-way punt.

Ascot Stakes

(Tues, 19:00)

Dominating win and each-way @ 20/1

Dominating was a winner over 2m on good-to-soft ground at Ascot last October and while he’s taken time to come good this term, he ran well to finish a head second over 1m6f at Carlisle (good-to-firm) on his most recent appearance earlier this month. The son of Jukebox Jury stays 2m2f having also won on soft ground at Pontefract last October and at a best price of 20/1 he looks to hold decent claims of providing a shock in the 2m4f Ascot Stakes which takes place on the opening day of the meeting.

Torcedor put a disappointing effort in Dubai behind him when winning over 2m here last month and while that effort came on soft ground the selection ran a fair race on much quicker ground at Ascot a year ago. The selection chased home likely Gold Cup favourite Order Of St George twice last autumn while he started last season with a defeat of that rival over 1m6f.

Quicker ground here compared to those two seconds behind Aidan O’Brien’s charge is of obvious concern but he looks worth chancing as he bids for a second success at this venue.

Wokingham Stakes

(Sat, 17:00)

Undrafted win and each-way @ 20/1 - BET NOW

The feature handicap on the final day of the meeting, the Wokingham, could see US raider Undrafted bid to provide trainer Wesley Ward with further success at this meeting.

Ward has been a revelation since sending out his first winner on the Tuesday of the 2009 meeting and his representative here Undrafted, the winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes back in 2015 and sixth in the same race a year later, could bid for a second Royal Ascot success.

The selection clearly isn’t the force of old but he ran well to finish third in a Listed contest over 7f at Belmont Park in April and gets into this race off a mark of 103.

The strong pace likely in this particular contest should suit the selection who is often ridden with restraint and at 20/1 he looks a fair each-way price.
