Saturday's ITV racing tips Betting Tips
It's another big Saturday afternoon feast of racing on ITV with eight races split evenly between Ascot and Haydock, including the Grade 1 Betfair Chase.
Saturday's ITV Horse Racing Predictions
David Pipe's team are in fine fettle right now and the Pond House handler is no stranger to a winner at Haydock on Betfair Chase Day. He has a fine contender for this handicap in Umbrigado, who ran well over three miles on this card a year ago.
He eventually finished fifth that afternoon and was then beaten in two further starts last term, albeit in hot handicaps at Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival. He's versatile trip-wise and is already a winner at this distance. Umbrigado has gone well fresh before and with Fergus Gillard taking 7lb off in the saddle, he remains unexposed enough to warrant a close each-way inspection on his seasonal bow.
Real Steel is another of the Sullivan Bloodstock runners to have transferred to Paul Nicholls this season from Willie Mullins and he's got excellent prospects here on his debut for the Ditcheat handler.
New stablemate Black Corton couldn't get his head in front last season, while doubts remain over the jumping of Itchy Feet, despite a decent third in the Old Roan on his comeback at Aintree.
Imperial Aura won the Colin Parker at Carlisle on his return, having fended off Galvin at the Cheltenham Festival on his final start last spring. That is strong form, of course, but so too was the sixth-place finish of Real Steel in the Gold Cup.
He's rated 166, the best of these, and readily won on his comeback last season. He should be ready to roll for his new trainer and if he's as good as he was in March, will take some stopping over a trip at which he has excelled previously.
The first British Grade 1 of the jumps season and it can go to last year's winner, Lostintranslation, for trainer Colin Tizzard and jockey Robbie Power. He swarmed all over two-time winner Bristol De Mai a year ago and it's doubtful if the popular grey can reverse the form here, despite that being his only career defeat at Haydock in five starts.
Instead, Lostintranslation can emulate the likes of Kauto Star, Cue Card and Silviniaco Conti in becoming a multiple winner of this prestigious race.
He flopped in the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day after winning this last time, that race won impressively by Clan Des Obeaux for the second time. Lostintranslation had both the Paul Nicholls runner and Bristol De Mai well behind in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March, however, when he produced a career-best in being close third behind Al Boum Photo and Santini, having undergone a wind op after Kempton.
He's got a decent turn of foot for a staying chaser but that run over 3m2f also showed he's laden with stamina and this track and trip are perfect for him to reverse the King George form with Clan Des Obeaux, who has tried and failed to win this race before.
