St. Leger Stakes odds

The St. Leger Festival’s final day has been moved from Saturday, September 10 to Sunday, September 11 due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. However, Day No. 4 of the famed horse racing festival will still be headlined by the St. Leger Stakes.

The race attracts some of the best flat horses, jockeys, and trainers in the industry. The stakes is the marquee event of what will now be a nine-race Sunday card.

Due to the Queen’s death, both the Friday and Saturday fixtures will be combined into a fantastic Sunday of horse racing at Doncaster Racecourse. Horse racing fans and punters will have plenty of reasons to get excited for this incredible day of racing.

As the old saying goes: “The fastest horse wins the Guineas; the luckiest the Derby – and the best horse wins the St Leger.”

What is the St. Leger Stakes?

The St. Leger Stakes takes place on the final day of the world-famous St Leger Festival. The event is a Group 1 flat horse race open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. The race is contested over the distance of one mile, 6 furlongs, and 115 yards.

Here are the latest odds to win the St. Leger Stakes on Sunday, September 11, 2022.

  1. New London 10/11
  2. Eldar Eldarov 5/1
  3. Hoo Ya Mal 11/2
  4. Haskoy 7/1
  5. French Claim 14/1
  6. Emily Dickinson 16/1
  7. Giavellotto 25/1
  8. El Habeeb 100/1
  9. Lizzie Jean 200/1

Who is the Favourite?

New London is the bookies’ favourite heading into the St. Leger Stakes at 10/11. The horse won four of its last five career starts. However, New London is untested at the Group 1 level. Strong recent performances at Group 3 lead many experts to believe New London is ready to make the step up to this division.

Eldar Eldarov is the second favourite according to leading bookies. The horse is three for three in its last three starts. Eldar Eldarov won the Queen’s Vase Group 2 race at Ascot recently. The horse’s wins have been impressive. If you are looking for a horse that could upset the favourite, New London, then consider Eldar Eldarov at odds of 5/1.

Hoo Ya Mal goes into the stakes at odds of 11/2. The horse was unable to outrun New London in July but has had success since then in a Group 3 race. Hoo Ya Mal is a strong horse, but may not be able to pull off a win on Sunday in this Group 1 fixture.

St. Leger St. Leger Stakes Prediction

It is difficult to look past New London as the winner of the St. Leger Stakes on Sunday. The horse is in fine form and goes into the fixture as the bookies’ favourite. New London is trained by Charlie Appleby, a trainer that knows a thing or two about winning major races. Four of New London’s five career starts ended as wins.

Jockey William Buick has ridden New London to back-to-back race wins at Newmarket and Goodwood. Our betting tips prediction is for Buick to mastermind a win in the saddle once more. Buick is aiming for a fifth win in six starts with New London.

Eldar Eldarov offers a strong choice as an alternative to New London. Eldar Eldarov is 5/1 to win the race. This offers up the chance to make an each-way bet. Leading bookies are offering 1/5 odds each way up to third place on the St. Leger Stakes.

A £100 each way bet on Eldar Eldarov at 5/1 would return £800 if the horse wins the race. If Eldar Eldarov places (second or third), the bet would return your stake. Remember that a £100 each-way bet would be a total stake of £200.
