Another busy day of racing on Thursday with six meetings scheduled for UK fans, five in Britain and one in Ireland.
Thursday's Horse Racing Predictions
Ayr (12.30-15.40, Flat) gets things started with Ffos Las (12.45-15.50, jumps), Exeter (13.30-17.00, jumps) and Thurles (14.15-17.20, Flat) also staging afternoon meetings. All-weather racing comes from Chelmsford City (17.30-20.30) and Southwell (16.10-20.15) in the evening.
We've got three selections to follow, starting at Ayr.
Granite City Doc to win and each-way - BET NOW
Granite City Doc has elevated his form to new heights since joining the Michael Smith yard, winning on debut at Hamilton (1m½f, soft) in late June and scoring again over the same C&D in August.
There's been a consistency to his four runs, including when finishing close-up in second behind a rival finally getting the hang of winning races in Baryshnikov over track and trip here nine days ago.
He had the re-opposing Howzer Black well held in third that afternoon and looks sure to go well again here, as he races from a 1lb lower mark now. He's also sporting a pair of first-time cheekpieces and, should they have a positive effect, this likeable and consistent performer surely has a say at the business end of the race.
Shinobi to win and each-way - BET NOW
Trainer Kim Bailey will have been thrilled with the start Shinobi made to his hurdling career with a decisive success at Uttoxeter last month (2m4f, good) and he's fancied to concede 7lb to these rivals on his way to making it two-from-two over sticks.
The Iffraaj gelding won his bumper at this track just under 12 months ago on good ground over 1m7f and doesn't lack for pace.
He was well held on soft ground in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day on this third start last term, after which his season ended.
He underwent wind surgery in the intervening time between that and Uttoxeter, and he did it nicely in that novice event, despite fiddling at one or two of his obstacles.
He's likely to have learned from that jumping test and with David Bass taking over in the plate, there's not that much in this line-up to trouble him, especially as he holds a fitness edge on Northern Poet - the Yeats gelding having shown some promise on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon in the spring (finished third).
Ffos Lad 14.20
Lord Bryan to win and each-way - BET NOW
There was plenty to like about Lord Bryan's second at Uttoxeter (3m, good) 13 days ago and he can go one better today from only 1lb higher.
He led the field for much of the journey in that Midlands contest but appeared to be have been cast aside when the likes of Sir Jack Yeats and Lillington went by him in the closing stages. Lord Bryan rallied gainfully under Sean Bowen and got by those rivals late on, though he was powerless to stop the wet sail of Follow The Swallow taking the win with a last-to-first swoop. Despite conceding a lot of weight to the winner, he was gaining at the line.
His ability to go from the front could be an asset here. Financial Outcome and Virginia Chick lack a recent run and the likes of King Monarch and Dell' Arca have shown a tendency to falter at the obstacles, so it will be in his favour to put them under pressure.
David Pipe's veteran may go off favourite after this third at Uttoxeter but he's got a poor strike-rate and Lord Bryan has gained three of his four chasing success on ground described as soft or heavy, so that's another positive.
