Will Rogers Downs and Fonner Park are back with the stateside action on Tuesday evening.
TUESDAY'S HORSE RACING PREDICTIONS:
L.A. Tower to win - 15/8 - BET NOW
Rider Leandro Goncalves has a fantastic record when teaming up with trainer Jon Arnett, who is operating at over 30 per cent this meet, at Will Rogers Downs and the duo combine with L.A. Tower in the $10,400 starter optional claimer (7.45) early on the Tuesday card.
This eight-time winner is in the form of his life and broke the track record over 1m4f at Zia Park on his third-last start in December. He ran to a similar level on his next outing at Sunland Park as he dropped back half a mile and was only denied by a nose after leading for most of the way.
While rider Ken Tohill had him positioned completely out of his ground after a two-month absence last time out, L.A. Tower almost got his partner out of trouble by changing up the gears impressively entering the home bend, but he couldn't sustain his run inside the final furlong.
He stuck on gamely to take third behind a subsequent scorer and this is a pretty notable step down in grade. He may get behind early, so don't fret if L.A. Tower isn't on the front end, but he has the necessary acceleration to put his opponents to bed in this kind of field.
The unexposed Banana Pepper is worth a second look for trainer Kelli Martinez in the $7,000 allowance (10.27) contest at Fonner Park despite being situated in the widest of seven runners.
A one-time winner after eight starts, Banana Pepper caught the eye on a couple of occasions at Mahoning Valley and Turfway Park early in his career and was punted off the boards to make a winning start at this venue when he lined up for a six-furlong maiden special weight contest two weeks ago.
Sent off at 1-5, Banana Pepper settled in behind the speed in the opening stages before being sent up three-wide to take up the pace at the halfway point. From then on it was a one-horse race and he eventually cleared away to win by four-and-a-half lengths.
The time of that race wasn't bad at all and it is easily feasible that he will have improved for that confidence-boosting success. This is a step up in grade but he is the only one who could progress in the field.
Lovethatcause to win - 4/7 - BET NOW
Unlike Banana Pepper, a wide draw in stall seven may scupper the chance of the hat-trick-seeking Lovethatcause in the closing $8,400 allowance optional claimer (1.09), but I'm going to stick with him given he is in rip-roaring form.
David Anderson's runner has posted huge speed figures for the grade when winning a couple of contests in all-the-way fashion at this venue the last twice and will prove very difficult to pass if he can get on the front once again.
