Wednesday 14th February Racing Tips

Action from Wolverhampton Racecourse

With five meetings set to take place on Wednesday, we have three tips including an interesting handicap debutant over jumps and a selection in the opener at the evening meeting at Wolverhampton.

5.15 Wolverhampton

Viola Park to Win and Each Way @ 9/1 – BET NOW

The selection disappointed when he could finish only eighth at Chelmsford last time out but that is worth forgiving given that he was never really travelling on that occasion and was eased when his chance had gone.

Prior to that the son of Aqlaam had been in decent enough form placing twice over this trip, including at Kempton on his penultimate outing when having subsequent dual winner Happy Escape directly behind him.

Trained by Ron Harris the gelding usually runs his race here and with two of his three previous victories coming over today’s C&D, including when victorious off a 3lb lower mark back in June last year, he looks to have a solid chance in this competitive 0-65 contest.

With just one other potential pace angle in the contest, the four-year-old looks likely to be able to race prominently behind the likely pacesetter Justice Pleasing and with stall 5 boasting a highly respectable 11% strike-rate in C&D contests with ten or more runners, Ron Harris’ charge can improve on that today and in the process provide jockey Tim Clark with his first winner for the trainer.

4.25 Fairyhouse

Timewaitsfornoone to Win and Each Way @ 11/8 - BET NOW

Alan Fleming’s charge was an expensive purchase having cost £225,000 at the Cheltenham Festival Sale of 2016 following his maiden point-to-point win at Tinahely on soft-to-heavy ground in February of that year.

Evidently things haven’t gone to plan since then with the selection’s sole outing coming when winning a point-to-point at Aghabullogue last month but he’s clearly a horse of some potential with the runner-up from his maiden success the now 133-rated Mind’s Eye, a dual winner for Henry De Bromhead already this season.

With both of Timewaitsfornoone’s previous victories coming in contests where the word “heavy” has appeared in the going description, he looks likely to be at home on the forecast ground.

Trainer Alan Fleming is looking for his second maiden hunter chase success in recent years having taken a similar race to this at Clonmel with Hedgeinator a couple of seasons back and in the process provide Timewaitsfornoone with his third success from just four career starts.

3.10 Towcester

Dark Aster to Win and Each Way @ 3/1 – BET NOW

Trainer Richard Mitford-Slade has made a flying start to his rules training career with an impressive 33% strike-rate from just nine runners and like previous winners Samuel Jackson and Applesolutely the selection in this content is a graduate of the point-to-point field.

The daughter of Alflora showed signs of ability in three outings in that sphere with her best effort coming when beaten by a length on soft ground at Great Trethew over 2m4f on debut in February last year.

The mare has shown improvement with racing under rules, following up a solid 27L fourth on heavy ground at Bangor over an extended 2m last month by finishing a 12L third when upped to 2m5f at Warwick less than three weeks later.

With this step up in trip looking likely to suit she can make a winning handicap debut today.
