Quid Pro Quo – 2pt Win – 9/4 (Bet365)

Quid Pro Quo went straight into my tracker as a horse to keep on the right side of when he beat Shearer (127) on debut at Hereford. The third horse, Liberty Hunter, won his next two races too. Pats Fancy was back in sixth that day and is now a 142 rated chaser.  

QPQ was only sixth at Huntingdon next time out, has been off 14 months and had a wind op, so he clearly has had some issues. However, I’m happy to forgive any horse one run.  

He opened at 5/4 which is around what I expected. However, he has drifted to 9/4 and at that price, I’m happy to have a go on him.  

He has been entered up before and withdrawn. Trying to read between the lines, if this was just a run for fitness, they would have just run him. So, I’m hoping the fact that they have waited and choose this race is a sign they feel it is very winnable and that he is ready to do just that.  

Stats wise, Harry Skelton has a strike rate of 23% at the track and he also had a 40% strike rate on hurdling favourites.  

I’d be very disappointed if Quid Pro Quo was not making his presence felt in this Maiden Hurdle. 

15:30 Warwick Betting Tips

2m (Inner) Coronation Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) (4yo+ 0-115) 

Long Call – 22/1 – 1pt Each Way

My next selection is Long Call in the following race. 

I saw a stable preview with Tony Carroll (shout out to Ash Symonds - @ASymondsJourno), where Tony said this horse was fresh and nicely handicapped. He said he will be running throughout the summer and is a horse that should pick up two or three wins without a problem.  

He ran poorly on his seasonal reappearance over this course and distance but that was his first run for 220 days, so I’m happy to forgive him for that.  

Last July he ran two close seconds off a mark of 103 and 104. The latter of those two seconds was to a horse called Manor Park that went on to win his next two runs as well. Manor Park is now rated 117 and Long Call was giving him 4lb the day they met. Long Call runs today off 99, so if he returns to that form from last summer with his reappearance run under his belt, he should be running a big race here.  

I feel that 22/1 is a massive price and he is well worth an each way bet here.  

20:20 Southwell Betting Tips

2m4½f (2m4f88y) DMRC Benevolence Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) (4yo+ 0-100) 

Camembert Electric – 7/4 – 4pt Win

Last but certainly not least, we have Camembert Electric in the final race at Southwell.  

This horse was stepped up in trip and got her head in front on his seasonal debut at Wetherby on horrible ground.  

She was dropped back in trip which seemed a strange move. She was outpaced four out and dropped to last but she then stayed on well at the finish to end up being third.  

They then stepped her back up in trip to 2m 2½f last time and that did the trick with her winning readily by 4¼ lengths.  

She’s been raised 7lb for that but goes up in trip again to 2m 4½f and I feel the further she goes the better she will be.  

I have heard she is in good form at home after that last win and the connections feel there is no reason she should not show up in the same form here and if she does, she will take some beating.
