Who are the favourites?

Wigan have a serious legacy when it comes to the Challenge Cup. Anyone who watched rugby league in the 1990s will associate the likes of Martin Offiah in the red and white hoops with the repeated lifting of silverware. It’s astonishing to recall that they won this very competition eight times in a row between 1988 and 1995 - but have done so on just three occasions since then.

After their poor start to the Super League season Wigan have turned things around rather impressively and once again look a serious force to be reckoned with. They are a best price of 10/11 for the win on Saturday. The Warriors warmed up for Wembley by easing past Salford to move to within a point of Super League's top four. Hull meanwhile were comfortably beaten by Huddersfield on home soil.

Hull won their first ever Challenge Cup final last year with a hard-fought 12-10 victory in front of 76,000 people. They are the slightest of underdogs to retain their title with some bookmakers unable to split the two clubs, but Paddy Power have the priced at 11/10 which is the best odds available at the time of writing. Hull were whitewashed 16-0 by Wigan in the 2103 final so will be out for revenge.

What’s your recommended Challenge Cup Final tip?

Wigan To Win @ 10/11 - BET NOW

Wigan Warriors have a 63% winning ratio in Challenge Cup finals (played 31, won 19, lost 12). There’s no disputing the club’s pedigree. Importantly Wigan are heading into the final in good form having won four of their last five, scoring an average of 27.4 points per game. I think Hull will struggle to live with the Power in Wigan’s pack.

But Joe Burgess is the danger man in my view. He grabbed two of five Wigan first half tries during the 42-6 demolition of Salford last weekend. They played some of the best rugby I’ve seen this season and if Hull aren’t fully prepared both physically and mentally, they could find themselves deep in the brown stuff with just 20 minutes gone.

Most neutrals will probably want to see Hull legend Gareth Ellis bow out as a Challenge Cup winner but there’s no room for sentimentality in my tips! Wigan to win in my view, but I think we’re in for an absolute cracker of a game. Don’t miss it!
