“After a few days in a blustery-to-say-the-least Penzance it’s nice to get back into the swing of things on Monday morning. Champions Day was unfortunately run in dire conditions, but the event itself was anything but dire. Cracksman took centre stage in the Champion Stakes, pulling away by seven lengths and into Arc contention next year. It’s incredibly unlikely at this stage, but just imagine for a second if we found ourselves in a situation where Winx lined up against Cracksman and Enable at Royal Ascot – I’m already struggling to control the excitement!” JJ

2.10 Windsor

First up we’ll head to Windsor for this class four handicap run over a mile and two furlongs.

Liquid Gold has been improving as of late and did well to get as close as he did at Chester from a terrible draw.

But I’ve been waiting for this LUNAR JET (9/2, DOUBLE STAKE) to re-appear since his last run at Goodwood where he hacked up by three lengths.

I tipped him that day as I felt he was close to a breakthrough after running well at HQ the time before despite pulling hard early, running into traffic and hanging under pressure inside the final furlong with the race at his mercy.

Luckily for me it did all come together at Goodwood last time, where he made a mockery of his mark of 71 to win by over three lengths despite dwelling in the stalls.

Since that win he’s been put up seven pounds, but I feel he could have a tonne of weight in hand still even with that rise and I’d hopeful he could win here at an easy-to-back best price of 9/2.

3.50 Pontefract

We’re treated to a listed race at Ponty today in the form of this two-year-old contest run over a mile.

I fancied Dark Aclaim for the listed race at Haydock time and he ran respectively despite a slow start. There could be more to come from him and the form of his win previous is working out well.

Old Persian bolted up on his last two and is likely at least a listed inner in the making. But at evens and with a couple of others with claims at much bigger prices I’ll leave alone.

I’m going to be siding with LISHEEN CASTLE (16/1) for John Quinn and Jason Hart. Mr Quinn hasn’t been having the best time of it on the flat recently, but he’s sent out a couple of seconds and winners over jumps, so hopefully there is nothing seriously wrong with the yard.

This son of Most Improved seems wildly overpriced at 16/1 after two excellent efforts already over this kind of trip in similar conditions to what he’ll face today. The first time we saw him he was sauntering to length and a quarter win at Hamilton in a race that has worked out very well with the second and fourth winning next time.

Last time at Epsom he ran well despite hating the track and getting visibly unbalanced in the home straight. Despite this he still stayed on eye-catchingly well to almost get up for third and on this slightly more conventional track I’d expect him to get much closer. With three places I’m hopeful of a return at big odds.
