Saturday teatime sees a Six Nations clash between two old foes as England host France at Twickenham.

Both have had rollercoaster campaigns for varying reasons and will see this match as a chance to settle some scores with the media, their opponents and themselves.

England vs France Betting Odds

A look at the markets has England as the 5/6 favourites and history is undoubtedly on their side.

Les Bleus haven't won at HQ in this competition since 2005, Dimitri Yachvili's left-boot proving the scourge of the Red Rose on a chilly February afternoon.

France did win a 2007 World Cup warm-up at Twickenham against a mixed bag of an English team but have generally struggled on their recent trips to London.

However, a selection agreement with the Top 14 clubs meant they fielded a scratch team on their last visit, only to push England close in a 22-19 extra-time defeat in the Autumn Nations Cup and they are priced at 11/10 to get the job done, with a draw at odds of 22/1.

Having won both of their games and seen England lose 6-11 to Scotland and, controversially, 40-24 against Wales, France are sure to be confident.

England vs France Team News

Eddie Jones will have to make do without flanker Jack Willis who could face a year out after undergoing knee surgery following the injury he suffered in the win over Italy.

George Ford is likely to stay in the 10 shirt with captain Owen Farrell in the midfield after dovetailing nicely against Wales. There are though doubts over whether Elliot Daly will be retained at full-back having struggled so far in the tournament.

France may have decisions to make after 11 players and staff went down with coronavirus, causing their game with Scotland to be postponed.

They may be able to recall fly-half Romain Ntamack, although he is yet to rediscover his previous free-flowing abandon after a broken jaw. Even so, Matthieu Jalibert has arguably been his country's best player over the last 12 months and will no doubt keep the number 10 jersey.

On current form, Jalibert's half-back partnership with scrum-half Antoine Dupont is arguably the best in world rugby making it unlikely to be disrupted.

England vs France Prediction

France to Win - BET NOW

These appear to be two teams heading in opposing directions and the way France's youngsters' have performed over the last year has been a joy to watch.

After a stodgy decade of uncertain tactics and questionable selection, Fabien Galthie and his staff seem to have come round to the idea of picking their best players in their most suitable positions. With French rugby clearly in the ascendency, their more straightforward approach is undoubtedly working.

In contrast, England seem to be caught between two stools with Jones loyal to those who inspired his team to the 2019 World Cup final, while perhaps other players, who are undoubtedly in better form, are overlooked.

A third Six Nations defeat for the holders would perhaps force the Australian's hand against Ireland next week and with France playing some sensational rugby, it's tough to see anything but an away win at a decent price.

France - Winning Margin - 6-10 Points - BET NOW

That doesn't mean it'll be a runaway win, though. While Les Bleus tore through Italy 50-10, life was more demanding in Dublin as they squeaked past an understrength Ireland 15-13.

A look at the recent fixtures shows that seven of the last eight meetings have been decided by 10 or less points.

That was the case last December when the Red Rose triumphed 22-19 after extra-time to win the Autumn Nations Cup, getting revenge on the French who won by seven in Saint-Denis earlier in the year.

France were unlucky that day but look to have a try too many for their hosts.

Damian Penaud - Anytime Tryscorer - BET NOW

Finally and it could be another successful afternoon for France wing Damian Penaud.

A tryscorer on his last trip to Twickenham in 2019, he returned to the XV for the win in Ireland and another score followed.

The 24-year-old, the son of former France fly-half Alain, is an interesting player in that centre is probably his preferred position.

That shows in the lines he picks when coming off the flank and while he may not be as silky as some of his colleagues, the Clermont man's intelligence means he always finds himself in the right places.
