There's no title up for grabs at the Principality Stadium on Saturday but both teams will be desperately seeking to sign off in style - Scotland to claim a third win and finish with a positive balance sheet, Wales to avoid a bottom-half finish for just the second time in nine years.
Under Wayne Pivac, Wales have now lost four matches in a row, their worst run since 2016 when their schedule included three Tests in New Zealand. Only one of those defeats was at home, a 27-23 defeat to France, and their only Cardiff outing this year was a 42-0 success against Italy in February, but fans have short memories and high expectations.
Scotland by contrast are on a run of three victories, although last week's 48-7 rout of Georgia was a little too easily gained to draw any conclusions from. But the Scots looked slick while Wales struggled to break down a well organised France defence in a 38-21 defeat.
Wales vs Scotland Betting Odds
Wales are 1/2 favourites for victory and have a record of nine Six Nations wins out of ten against the Scots at home. But the days of double-figure handicaps for the hosts have gone and there is less than a converted try in it as Wales are rated six-point favourites.
That is the lowest handicap there has been this century apart from two years ago when a highly-fancied Scotland team went to Cardiff in round one of the tournament with just a three-point start and were routed 34-7. Wales have beaten the Scots on their last ten visits in the tournament and just once has the margin been by less than seven points. Backing Wales to win by 11 to 20 points, a 3/1 shot this weekend, would have won on five of those ten occasions.
Wales vs Scotland Team News
The teams are due to be named on Thursday. Scotland coach Gregor Townsend has the kind of conundrum coaches enjoy with the option of strengthening a winning team.
The Scots ran out convincing winners against Georgia last week without Exeter players Stuart Hogg, Jonny Gray and Sam Skinner, all of whom could now figure. Fly-half Finn Russell was brought back into the fold for that game from the bench.
Full-back Liam Williams and prop Tomas Francis are available for Wales but scrum-half Rhys Webb, who started against France, looks set to miss out.
Wales vs Scotland Prediction
This is a fixture that has belonged to Wales in past years and Scotland fell well short of the high hopes put in them when they last ran out in Cardiff in the Six Nations.
Nonetheless, this could not be a better time for the Scots to bite back. They have a strong squad with their Exeter contingent available while Wales appear uncertain over selection following four straight defeats.
It's hard to imagine the Millennium Stadium without a fervent, noisy home crowd but that's what the teams will face and there's no doubt the Wales players feed off the passion of their fans. Scotland struggle for tries in their first two matches against Ireland and England but they looked sharp and positive last week. They can at least keep to within a single score.
