US Open tennis champion Emma Raducanu is set to go off as the short-priced favourite at 1/20 to win the main award, while diver Tom Daley is 12/1.

World boxing champion Tyson Fury is 50/1 while swimmer Adam Peaty is 125/1.

Paralympian cyclist Dame Sarah Storey is 150/1 while Manchester City and England footballer Raheem Sterling is 200/1.

Betting is also available in a ‘without Raducanu’ market. Daley is 4/9, Fury is 4/1, Peaty is 13/2, Sterling is 33/1 and Storey is 40/1.

Raducanu has been hotly tipped to win the award after her surprise victory at Flushing Meadows, when as a qualifier she took the final tennis Grand Slam of the year without losing a set.

Adam Peaty became the first British swimmer to successfully defend an Olympic title when he won the 100m breaststroke in Tokyo.

He holds the 16 quickest times over the distance and is the only swimmer to have gone under 57 seconds.

Dame Sarah Storey took her Paralympic gold medal tally to 17 in Tokyo, claiming the cycling road racing title she has held since 2012. It was her eighth games after she won gold as a 14-year-old swimmer in Barcelona in 1992.

Raheem Sterling scored three goals as England reached their first Major final since 1966 before they were beaten on penalties by Italy at Euro 2020.

He also helped his club Manchester City to their third Premier League title in four years.

It would be a massive surprise if Emma Raducanu did not take the award and Tom Daley should be her closest challenger as he is likely to be popular having finally realised his Olympic gold-medal dream this year.

However, there could be some value in backing Adam Peaty to finish in the top three.

Tyson Fury is considered his closest rival in this market, but the boxer is notorious for his disdain for this award and he already asked the BBC to be withdrawn from the nominations.

His fans may also elect to boycott the vote and, as a competitor who is clearly head and shoulders above any of his breaststroke rivals, Peaty looks a generous price at 6/5 to gain a top-three berth.
