England and Everton goalkeeper has seen his odds slashed to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year from 100/1 to as low as 5/1.
Since England’s World Cup quarter-final win against Sweden, the former Sunderland shot stopper has been backed heavily by punters to win the individual award in December.
Various bookmakers have cut their odds after a series of impressive performances by the Everton keeper which saw his save against Colombia help win England their first ever World Cup penalty shootout.
Jordan Pickford has leapfrogged house hold names such as heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua and F1 Champions, Lewis Hamilton to become the second favourite to win the award.
Jordan Pickford to Win BBC SPOTY @ 7/1 – BET NOW
Jordan Pickford’s first break came in the 2016/17 Premier League season when then manager, David Moyes, made the 24-year-old his number 1 in a difficult campaign. Sunderland finished bottom of the table and relegated to the Championship for the 2017/18 season, but Pickford proved to be the glimmer of hope in a difficult season for the Black Cats. Pickford was shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the year Award in 2017.
Pickford’s shot stopping ability and comfort on the ball peaked interests from a number of Premier League clubs, but Everton secured the Washington born keeper’s signature in a £30m move that took the goalkeeper to Merseyside where he instantly became the Toffee’s number one keeper and remained there through a season of turmoil on the Blue side of Liverpool.
Early in his career, Jordan Pickford went on loan to a number of clubs to learn his trade in an environment that allowed him to mistakes. Pickford made his way through the divisions with loan moves while he was under contract at Sunderland to Conference Premier sides Darlington and Alfreton town in 2012 and 2013. In the 2013/14 season, Pickford played on loan at Carlisle United and Burton Albion in League Two, followed by a season long loan at Bradford City in League One during the 2014/15 season and another season loan at Preston North End in the 2015/16 season.
Harry Kane to Win BBC SPOTY @ 1/2 - BET NOW
England teammate and current World Cup top goal scorer, Harry Kane is the favourite to win BBC Sports Personality of the year at a best-price of 1/2 following another impressive Premier League season for Tottenham and the 24-year-old stepping up onto the biggest stage in football.
Current unified heavyweight champion boxer, Anthony Joshua is third favourite after his unanimous decision win against Australian Joseph Parker in March to defend his IBF, WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight titles, whilst picking up the WBO heavyweight title.
With one more fight confirmed for September against an unnamed opponent, a convincing win could see AJ’s odds cut further as he looks to make up for missing out on the 2017 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award to Mo Farah.
Formula 1 World Champions, Lewis Hamilton is fourth favourite, however as it stands the four-time World Champion is second in the 2018 Driver’s Championship behind Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel as the German looks to win his fifth title and his first since 2013.
Lewis Hamilton will need a strong finish to the season to pick up his fifth F1 World Title because if he is unable to clinch the top stop away from the German, we could see his odds grow.
