Two men chasing their first ever Grand Slam crown lock horns for a place in the final of the Australian Open, with Russian Daniil Medvedev favourite to oust Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Greek fifth seed Tsitsipas looked down and out when trailing Spanish legend Rafael Nadal by two sets in his quarter-final duel, but he battled on courageously to run out a 3-6 2-6 7-6 6-4 7-5 victor.

Medvedev had fewer concerns brushing aside compatriot and world number seven Andrey Rublev 7-5 6-3 6-2 in his quarter-final, but he did require five sets to see off Filip Krajinovic in round three.

This is a third Major semi-final for both players but Medvedev has at least won one of his last-four battles having finished runner-up to Nadal at the US Open in 2019.

Daniil Medvedev to win - BET NOW

This promises to be a cracker between two of the game's emerging talents and anything other than a long, gruelling contest would be somewhat of a surprise.

Tsitsipas has played one match fewer than Medvedev to make it this far - Matteo Berretini had to withdraw from their supposed fourth-round clash with injury - but despite that he has contested only one set less than his Russian opponent.

While Medvevev has recorded four of his five tournament wins in straight sets, the Greek fifth seed has twice been taken to five in wins over Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nadal.

Medvedev took his winning run to 19 games across all competitions with victory over Rublev, with his last defeat coming in the quarter finals in Vienna in October of last year.

Given his winning mentality and the way he ruthlessly dispatched his fellow Russian in the last round, it is hard to look beyond the world number four and a final place looks his for the taking.

Medvedev vs Tsitsipas H2H

Over 38.5 games - BET NOW

Medvedev has won five of the previous six meetings with Tsitsipas, prevailing 3-1 in their only previous encounter in a Grand Slam which came at the US Open in 2018.

Four of Medvedev’s wins were recorded on a hard-court, which bodes well for this duel, but it is worth noting that only two of their six showdowns were settled in straight sets.

Tsitsipas had Medvedev’s measure in their most recent clash at the ATP Finals in London two years ago, but both players have developed their game’s considerably since then.

Tsitsipas has claimed at least a set in five of the pair’s six meetings and now 22 years of age, the world number six is arguably in the best shape of his career.

With that in mind, we are predicting a marathon clash and over 38.5 games makes plenty of appeal - his win over Nadal last time out featured 52 service games.

Medvedev vs Tsitsipas Prediction

Medvedev to win win 3-2 - BET NOW

Medvedev may have won four of his five Melbourne matches in straight sets, but Tsitsipas is so strong on serve and has such a devastating forehand that a repeat would be a shock.

The Russian needed five sets to see off Filip Krajinovic in round three, while Tsitsipas has also been involved in two epic five-set encounters.

Medvedev has recorded three of his five wins over Tsitsipas in a deciding set and although those contests were over three sets, there’s no reason to think the extra distance will stop a repeat.

It is also worth noting that Medvedev is one of the fittest players on the ATP Tour and the longer rallies are going to play to his strengths, so were this clash to go the distance you’d have to make him a strong favourite. Take Medvedev to win 3-2.
