The women’s French Open served up plenty of surprises with the unseeded Barbora Krejcikova going on to claim her maiden Grand Slam title, and the uncertainty surrounding the well-being of many of the game's elite strengthens the case for another upset at Wimbledon.
Last year’s event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and there are fitness concerns for 2019 champion Simona Halep, who skipped the French Open and has since been forced to withdraw from her warm-up event in Bad Homburg.
Four-time Grand Slam heroine Naomi Osaka is a notable absentee from SW19 this summer.
Wimbledon Women’s Betting Odds
World number one Ashleigh Barty is 6/1 favourite for Wimbledon glory despite having never gone beyond the fourth round at the All England Club while 39-year-old Serena Williams, who is without a Grand Slam crown since 2017, is a 7/1 chance.
2017 champion Garbine Muguruza can be backed at 10/1, which is the same price as two-time winner Petra Kvitova.
Halep is available at 12/1 in her delayed Wimbledon title defence along with Polish 20-year-old Iga Swiatek, who is already chasing a second Major title after ruling Roland Garros last year.
The 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and big-hitting Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka are both available at 14/1.
Wimbledon Women’s Prediction
Cori Gauff to win - BET NOW
Few at the head of the Wimbledon market can be trusted to do their running and instead a chance should be taken on American teenage sensation Cori Gauff landing a knockout blow.
It is only a matter of time until Gauff gets a shot at Grand Slam silverware and there is no reason to think the 17-year-old can’t live up to her lofty expectations this summer.
Gauff has already risen to number 23 in the world rankings and is a two-time winner on the WTA Tour.
The Georgian girl reached the quarter-finals of the French Open earlier this month and her only previous visit to Wimbledon in 2019, when she was a 15-year-old qualifier, saw her embark on a dream run to the fourth round.
Gauff bumped into eventual champion Halep in her fourth-round assignment, having previously defeated Venus Williams, Magdalena Rybarikova and Polona Hercog, and she must be taken more seriously now with added experience under her belt.
Wimbledon Women’s Outsiders
Belinda Bencic to win - BET NOW
One of the most interesting outsiders could be Swiss Belinda Bencic, who has proven grass-court credentials and is showing signs of returning to peak form.
The world number 12 has done little of note since reaching the semi-finals of the US Open in 2019 but she is a four-time winner on the WTA Tour, which includes on the turf of Eastbourne.
Bencic has twice reached the fourth round of Wimbledon and she hinted that she was returning to the boil when finishing runner-up in a grass-court event in Berlin just over a week ago.
With confidence restored and some luck in-running, the 24-year-old can finally live up to her promise. She is certainly talented enough to make her mark in a Grand Slam.
Karolina Muchova to win - BET NOW
At 33/1, a chance can also be taken on the much-improved Czech performer Karolina Muchova.
The 24-year-old recorded wins over Anett Kontaveit and compatriot Karolina Pliskova to make the last eight on her Wimbledon debut two years ago and she kickstarted this campaign with a semi-final run at the Australian Open.
Muchova is a winner on the WTA Tour and in a wide-open event, where cases can be made for many, is worthy of consideration.
