World number one Ashleigh Barty has steamrolled her way through to the Australian Open final and only Danielle Collins stands in her way from becoming the first home winner of the women's singles in Melbourne since 1978.

Wimbledon champion Barty has certainly justified her tag as favourite to win her third Grand Slam title this month, as she has blown away all her opponents en route to the final, dropping just 21 games across her six matches.

Barty is now just one victory away from becoming the first home winner of the women's singles at the Australian Open since Chris O'Neil 44 years ago.

Standing in her way is 27th seed Collins, who has made it through to her first Grand Slam final following a convincing victory over former French Open champion Iga Swiatek in the last four.

It is no surprise that Barty is the overwhelming 1/5 favourite to win Saturday's showpiece encounter at the Rod Laver Arena, as not only has she dominated all her opponents in Melbourne, but she is also yet to taste defeat in 2022 having claimed her 14th WTA title at the Adelaide International earlier this month.

Collins is also a player that comes into the final in form, as she boasts a 36-10 record since undergoing endometriosis surgery last April, a sequence that has also seen her pick up her first two WTA Tour titles at last year's Palermo International and Silicon Valley Classic.

The American will now be hoping to add a first Grand Slam success to that growing list of achievements and she is priced at 4/1 to get the better of Barty.

However, it was Collins that came out on top when they last locked horns, with the 28-year-old having claimed a straight sets victory in the second round of last year's Adelaide International.

Collins is a player in form, but the magnitude of a first Grand Slam final appearance could also prove too much for the world number 30, and as Barty has shown throughout this tournament, she is capable of exploiting even the smallest weaknesses in her opponents armour.

Barty has certainly made a habit of starting fast at this tournament, dropping a total of just 10 games in the opening sets of her six matches to date - four of which were won by Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round.
