Experienced Frenchman Benoit Paire upset 26th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of the Australian Open and now turns his attention to world number four Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Paire is supremely gifted but is a difficult man to predict and it is hard to know what his opening two triumphs have taken out of him.

The 32-year-old needed five sets to overcome Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro in round one and four to come past Dimitrov, so must be vulnerable against the talented Tsitsipas.

The Greek fourth seed made light work of Mikael Ymer in his Melbourne curtain-raiser before seeing off Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-4 in his second-round match.

Tsitsipas is 1/10 to successfully navigate his way into round four at the expense of Paire, who is 6/1 to land a knockout blow.

The Greek 23-year-old is 5/6 for a straight-set triumph, while he is 11/4 to win in four and 13/2 to prevail in an epic deciding set.

This is a fourth competitive meeting between these players and it should come as no surprise to see Tsitsipas leading their personal series 3-1.

The world number four has won their last three rivalries in straight sets, although each of those matches were played over the shorter best-of-three format.

This is their first meeting in Grand Slam competition but it is worth noting that the Frenchman has never gone beyond the third round of the Australian Open in 11 previous attempts.

Stefanos Tsitispas to win 3-1 - BET NOW

odds

Tsitsipas has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in two of the last three seasons and should be expected to book his place in round four with victory over Paire.

However, the French world number 56 performed to a really high level in getting the better of Dimitrov and if again bringing his A-game can make life tough for the Greek seed.

Paire was broken only twice against the Bulgarian and his strong serve should cause some problems for Tsitsipas, who is playing well but letting up a number of break opportunities.

The youngster needed four sets in his win over the inexperienced Baez last time out and may have to settle for a similar margin of victory against Paire.

odds

With both players strong on serve, the chances of a lengthy opening set look quite likely.

Two of the four sets, including the opener, in Tsitsipas’ second-round win went over Baez went to a tiebreak, while the same happened in two of the four sets Paire contested against Dimitrov.

The first set in both of Paire’s matches have featured at least ten games and the trend may continue in his third-round tussle with Tsitsipas.
