All eyes will be on Roger Federer at Wimbledon on Tuesday when one of the greatest grass-court players of all-time is chasing a record-extending ninth Wimbledon crown.

Federer is the joint-most decorated player in the game’s history alongside Rafael Nadal with 20 Grand Slam titles, but he is without a major win since 2018 and is closing in on his 40th birthday.

The Swiss superstar is 17/2 for what would surely be one last hurrah at Wimbledon and he starts his All England Club campaign against French stalwart Adrian Mannarino in round one.

Sixth seed Federer is 1/7 to make a winning start against Mannarino, who is 9/2 to play the role of pantomime villain and spring an early upset.

The 39-year-old is 5/6 to win in straight sets, while a 3-1 win for Swiss ace can be backed at 11/4. It is 4/1 for the contest to go the distance.

Roger Federer vs Adrian Mannarino Head-to-head

This will be the seventh competitive meeting between Federer and Mannarino and all the previous six have gone the Swiss man’s way.

Federer leads his lower-ranked challenger 15-1 in sets and all three of their duels in Grand Slam were quickly settled by him in straight-set successes.

Interestingly, this will be a third meeting between the pair at Wimbledon, with Federer easing to 3-0 wins on both occasions.

The last of those duels came in the fourth round in 2018, with Federer prevailing then 6-0 7-5 6-4.

Roger Federer vs Adrian Mannarino Prediction

Federer to win 3-1 - BET NOW 11/4

While Fededer has an excellent record against Mannarino and is expected to book his place in the second round, there are reasons to tread cautiously.

The world number eight is evidently not the force of old and he has played just eight competitive matches this calendar year.

Federer has won five of those eight games, but only two of those victories came in straight sets. He also arrives at Wimbledon with only one grass-court preparation event under his belt in Halle, where he was defeated in his second outing by Felix Auger Aliassime.

Mannarino doesn’t have the natural ability of Auger Aliassime, but he is plucky and in decent enough form having made the semi-finals on the Mallorca turf last week.

Federer withdrew prior to his French Open fourth-round clash with Matteo Berrettini earlier this month in order to save himself for Wimbledon but needed four sets in two of his wins in Paris and may need the same to see off Mannarino. Take Federer to win 3-1 at odds of 11/4.

Over 33.5 total games - BET NOW

Federer’s two Wimbledon wins over Mannarino lasted 25 and 28 games but the Frenchman can put up a better fight this time around.

The Swiss sixth seed is not as dominant as he was back then and each of those two wins were settled in straight sets. If the Frenchman can get one on the board, the total games should surpass the 33-game mark.

Federer has dropped a set in 11 of his last 13 completed matches, so that has to be a strong possibility given the current form of Mannarino. The world number 42 defeated Jan Lennard Struff and Feliciano Lopez in Spain last week, which were two excellent scalps.
