There are just four left standing in the women’s singles at Wimbledon with all of the top 10 seeds already out. There are a couple of interesting match-ups and Chris Rivers has been taking a look at the possible outcomes with these Wimbledon tips.

Angelique Kerber v Jelena Ostapenko

(Thurs, 13:00)

Ostapenko to win @ 7/5 - BET NOW

Jelena Ostapenko came from nowhere to win the 2017 French Open and become the darling of Paris at the age of 20. However, her form then began to dip and she has won just one tournament since that Grand Slam success. The Latvian did reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals 12 months ago but there was little to suggest she might make the last four this time around.

However, the youngster has breezed through her matches to date and took out Dominika Cibulkova in the last eight to book a date with Kerber. She is playing the kind of fearless tennis that gave her glory in Paris and, with youth on her side, I can see her taking out Kerber in three tough sets. The German is certainly not without hope but they have yet to face each other in tournament tennis and so there is no history to go on.

The 30-year-old also suffered a downturn in fortunes after winning the Australian Open and US Open in 2016 and a march to the Melbourne Park semis earlier this year proved that she was still hungry for Grand Slam success. Kerber is favourite in the Wimbledon betting but, in a tournament of shocks, youth is set to prevail and Ostapenko is tipped to reach the All England Club showpiece.

Serena Williams v Julia Gorges

(Thurs, 14:00)

Williams to win @ 2/7 - BET NOW

Wimbledon odds on Williams to make yet another final are short and it is understandable why. The American legend may have only played a few tournaments before SW19 after taking time out to have her first child, but she is simply a cut above the rest and seemingly on the way to an eighth title in south-west London.

The power is still there and, with most of her biggest rivals falling by the wayside, the door is open for another appearance in the final. She was challenged in her semi-final by Camila Giorgi but came through that test in three sets and there is little to suggest that she will not be able to get past the 13th seed on Thursday. The Florida resident had not lost a set until her last-eight contest but that should have sharpened her up for the rest of the event.

Gorges has lost both her previous encounters with Williams but has yet to play her on grass and it is no surprise that she is priced at 5/2 to reach the final. There is a sense that the 29-year-old has punched above her weight to go so deep in the year’s third Grand Slam but the journey must surely come to an end this time around.
