Novak Djokovic is hoping to retain the men's singles title at Wimbledon this year but the super Serb suffered a first-round scare at the hands of British teenager Jack Draper, who went a set up before Djokovic eventually overpowered him in four.

His reward will be a second-round clash with South African giant Kevin Anderson, who has been struggling after a succession of injuries which have derailed the veteran in recent years.

It's no surprise to see Djokovic dominating the betting for this clash. The 34-year-old claimed his 19th Grand Slam title win at the French Open at the start of the month and he's chasing a sixth Wimbledon crown over the next fortnight - a feat which would see him draw level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 Grand Slams.

The bookies make Djokovic no bigger than 1/20 to advance to a third-round clash with either Andreas Seppi or Denis Kudla and he is just 2/5 to win in straight sets. Underdog Anderson, meanwhile, is available at 25/1 to spring a surprise.

Defeat against Draper would have been a massive shock for Djokovic but, in Anderson, he does face an opponent who has proven himself at Grand Slam level, reaching the final of the US Open in 2017 and repeating the feat at Wimbledon the following year.

The problem for Anderson, like so many of his contemporaries, was that he ran into Nadal in the US final and then met Djokovic at the All England Club - where he suffered one of nine defeats from ten meetings between the pair.

The South African won their first tussle in Miami in 2008, but Djokovic has held sway since, although Anderson did push him a long way when they met in a Wimbledon five-setter in the last-16 in 2015.

Everything about this contest points towards a Djokovic win. The Serb has continued to accumulate Grand Slam titles on a regular basis in recent years and there's no question that Anderson, now ranked outside the top 100, is no longer the player he once was.

He struggled to see off Tomas Barrios in his opener and must defy a 1-9 head-to-head record and, While he is a popular player who will garner crowd support, he'll need more than that if he's to truly trouble Djokovic.

Still, Draper did expose some vulnerability in the world number one on Monday and Anderson, who remains in possession of a dangerous serve, could make life for the favourite as he did in 2015.

Djokovic looked in trouble at times in the earlier rounds at Roland Garros and it wouldn't be a huge shock to see Anderson claim a set, in which case over 30.5 total games would almost certainly land.

Anderson fired in 41 aces against Barrios in round one and, while Djokovic's return game is on a completely different level, the South African could utilise his biggest strength to hang around in the early stages of the match.

If he does, then a first-set tiebreak looks like a big runner and the value is in backing Djokovic to triumph if that is the case.
