The eight best players from 2019 have descended on Shenzhen for the season-ending WTA Finals. There are some cracking matches to kick things off on Sunday and we take a look at the betting opportunities.

Naomi Osaka to beat Petra Kvitova

Osaka is seeded three for the Far East event and heads into this clash as the favourite to beat Kvitova. The two-time Grand Slam champion has maybe not built on her Australian Open triumph during the year but has hit form at the right time, with victory at the Pan Pacific Open in Japan back in September, while she also took October's China Open.

Kvitova has just one title to her name this year, winning the Stuttgart Open in April, but she reached the Aussie Open final only to fall to Osaka in three close sets. That is the only previous meeting between the pair but the 29-year-old Czech Republic star has much more experience than her opponent, having won 27 WTA tournaments in a stellar career.

This certainly looks a tight one on paper but I would go for the in-form youngster to get the job done and make it a winning start.

Ashleigh Barty to beat Belinda Bencic

If there was little to go on in terms of previous encounters for the first match, there is even less for this one as the duo have never met in the professional ranks. Barty, 23, has enjoyed her breakthrough year on the WTA Tour, with victory in the French Open, while she also took the Birmingham Classic and was runner-up to Osaka in China.

It has taken the Australian to the top of the world rankings and she will be up against the 22-year-old world number seven who has reached three finals this year - and won two of them. The Swiss ace won in Dubai, while she also claimed the Kremlin Cup earlier this month. Bencic enjoyed a run to the US Open semi-finals and has had a solid year.

It remains to be seen if she can raise her game enough to get past Barty and having won the second-tier Elite Trophy on 2018, the top-ranked player will be eager to take this one as well.

WTA Finals Accumulator Prediction

With so much talent on show, these matches can go either way but Osaka looks ready to win this event, so it would be no surprise to see her go all the way. Winning the first match is so important to aid qualification for the semi-finals and she will not hold back against Kvitova.

Accumulator: Osaka to beat Kvitova & Barty to beat Bencic
