2017/18 3rd Test Ashes Tips

Australia celebrate winning the the second Ashes Test

As England have a week to lick their wounds after going 2-0 down in the Ashes series, Eamon Hanlon assesses the Ashes odds and the tourists' chances of ending a barren run at Perth's WACA in the 3rd Test to keep alive their hopes of retaining the famous urn.....

Who are the favourites?

The Baggy Greens are clear favourites in the Ashes betting to continue their dominance in the series to date, they are best priced at 4/7 to follow up their 10-wicket win in the opener at The Gabba in Brisbane and the 120-run success in Adelaide in the 2nd Test.

England head to Western Australia for the Test, which gets under way on December 14, in the knowledge that they have the weight of history firmly against them.

No England side has won at the WACA since 1978 with Australia claiming seven wins from seven, including their solitary success back in 2010 when the tourists claimed an historic 3-1 series win Down Under.

But, despite England's poor run at the venue, Australia are not invincible in Perth. They have won only four of their previous nine Test matches there with four defeats and one draw so at a best price of 7/2, Joe Root's men can be backed to stop the rot and ensure the remaining Tests are not dead rubbers.

A draw looks good value at and that would also be sufficient for England to ensure they head to the MCG in Melbourne, for the Boxing Day Test, still in the hunt to tie the series and keep their hands on the urn.

What's your recommended bet for the 3rd Ashes Test?

Pat Cummins Top Australia Bowler @ 3/1 - Bet Now!!!

The WACA pitch is renowned for being one of the fastest in world cricket and that suits the Australians, given that they have utilised their pacemen to cause England big problems in the opening two Test matches.

Mitchell Starc has been the biggest thorn in England's side so far, with 14 wickets taken in the series, and he is best priced at 15/8 to be top man for Steve Smith's men in the 3rd Test.

But Cummins has pace in abundance and on a fast wicket like in Perth, he is always going to cause problems for the England's batting attack and he is our among our Ashes picks for the 3rd Test.

Ironically, Ben Stokes and Steven Finn would relish the conditions and are missing from the England line-up, so the usual suspects such as James Anderson and Stuart Broad will be called on to remove the Australian batting order.

But for value in the Ashes betting, Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton is well priced at 9/2 to be the top England bowler in the Test having claimed four wickets in Adelaide.

The England batsmen need to step up to the plate to help their bowlers in Perth with more pressure on Root to perform, but Dawid Malan stands out in the Ashes odds at 8/1 to be top run scorer.

The 30-year-old has already secured a half-century on the tour and has managed double figures in four innings - barring the second in Brisbane - when he managed just four. But Malan is ideally suited to guard against the expected pace from the Australian bowling attack and can be the man to get some much-needed runs on the board for England.
