Cricket World Cup Match Tips

- 11:02, 26th February 2015

The 2015 Cricket World Cup is underway and we’re set for a month of big hitting action down under. Tom Powell will be on hand with his best bets from all the big matches and has offered his top tips from the three huge group games taking place this weekend...

South Africa v West Indies (Friday, 03:30, Sky Sports 2)

Match Betting: South Africa 4/11, West Indies 5/2

Tom’s Top Tip: David Miller Top South Africa Batsman @ 7/1 – BET NOW

South Africa surprisingly slipped up against India last time out but I’d expect them to get back on track against the West Indies in Sydney. The Proteas were undone by a good batting effort from the Indians (particularly Shikhar Dhawan) but they’re still a class side and we have to assume it was a one-off. All the Windies chat of course revolves around Chris Gayle’s ridiculous 215 from 147 balls against Zimbabwe and combined with their convincing win against Pakistan they come here in good form. However, their price of 5/2 is a good reflection of how likely an upset is. Instead, take David Miller to top score for South Africa at 7/1. The 25 year-old is his team’s top run-scorer at the World Cup with 160 in two innings, largely thanks to his 138* against Zimbabwe in their first game. With the likes of Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla out of touch at the top of the order, Miller could be in earlier than expected at no.5 and looks a touch of value to rack up some more runs again.

Australia v New Zealand (Saturday, 01:00, Sky Sports 2)

Match Betting: Australia 8/11, New Zealand 13/10

Tom’s Top Tip: Australia To Win @ 8/11 – BET NOW

Although this match is being played in Auckland I still expect Australia to win. The tournament favourites had their game against Bangladesh abandoned without a ball being bowled which has left them trailing the Kiwis in Pool A and means they will be fully motivated to chalk up a win here. They thrashed England convincingly by 111 runs in their opener so we have to assume they’re in tip top form right now. New Zealand also pummelled England last time out but looked surprisingly edgy in their previous games against Scotland and Sri Lanka. Australia are the better side and should win – take the 8/11.

England v Sri Lanka (Saturday, 22:00, Sky Sports 2)

Match Betting: England Evs, Sri Lanka 10/11

Tom’s Top Tip: Sri Lanka To Win @ 10/11 – BET NOW

Let’s face it: England have been absolutely woeful at the World Cup and their 119 win over Scotland last time out has done nothing to paper over the cracks. There are fundamental issues in the team’s tactics and form of key players which simply haven’t been addressed. Sri Lanka are also among the weaker test-playing nations right now but their class players such as Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan should be able to take care of this woeful England outfit. The match betting is pretty even but I’d have Sri Lanka as firmer favourites – take them at 10/11 to inflict more England woe in Wellington.
