Top 5 IPL Run Scorers
*data correct at the time of writing*
#1 – Suresh Raina (3837 runs)
The top run scorer in IPL history is Suresh Raina. Not surprising, considering he has had more innings than any other batsmen in the history of the competition (133) but it’s an impressive record nonetheless.
No one has more fours in the competition than Raina (338) and despite scoring just one century in his IPL career, he does have an excellent strike rate of 139.56. So when your mates down the pub ask you do you know who the top run scorer in IPL history is? Hit them with the answer sharpish… Suresh Raina!
#2 – Rohit Sharma (3615 runs)
A mere 222 runs behind in second place is Rohit Sharma! Similar in batting style to Raina, the IPL player with the second most runs in the tournament has a lower strike rate and average score than the number one, but has recorded a bigger record score with his best a 109 not out.

#3 – Virat Kohli (3504 runs)
In last week’s IPL countdown, we discovered that Virat Kohli was the highest earning player in the whole tournament this season. Fair play to him, he is earning his keep, as no player has scored more runs so far this season than the Indian captain.
With an average of 35.04 thus far throughout his 120 innings, you have to assume that he will catch either or both of the two batsmen ahead of him soon enough!
#4 - Gautam Gambhir (3370 runs)
Despite never recording a century in the IPL, Gautam Gambhir is currently the fourth highest run scorer in IPL history. However, no player has picked up more half centuries in the tournament than him.
He is not a ‘blaster’ with the cricket bat, hitting just 47 sixes in his 121 innings, but no player has recorded more fours than him (395). Incisiveness is key to his game!
#5 – Chris Gayle (3200 runs)
Some of Chris Gayle’s IPL statistics are simply unbelievable. In just 83 innings (that’s 38 less than Gambhir) he has scored an incredible 3200 runs with a strike rate of 152.96 and an average score of 45.07.
He has hit 230 sixes in his IPL career – 77 more than the second most six hitter – and has the record innings in IPL history with a knock of 175 not out. What a weapon he is!
