In 2020-21, the Nerazzurri ended a decade-long wait to win a 19th Scudetto, making them the second-most successful Italian club behind Juventus.
Inter Milan have had many highs and low, and the club’s past has been turbulent at times. Despite the issues Inter Milan have faced and continue to do so, they are supported by millions of football fans across the world. This coming season could be another successful campaign for the Nerazzurri on the peninsula or continent.
About Inter Milan
Inter Milan were formed in 1908 due to a split with established club AC Milan. The Rossoneri focused on signing only Italian players, but Internazionale wanted to add players to the squad from other countries. The club’s desire to sign players from outside of Italy led to the team’s name, Internazionale.
The club didn't take long to win trophies. In 1910, Inter Milan won their first Scudetto. They secure six more Italian top-flight trophies over the next five years. In the 1920s, Inter Milan underwent some changes due to the National Fascist Party. The government dictated changes to the club that resulted in altering their name.
The club were renamed Societa Sportiva Ambrosiana. Once the National Fascist Party’s rule ended, the club reverted to its old name in 1943.
The 1960s and 1970s saw plenty of success initially beginning under Argentine coach Helenio Herrera. The coach led the team to a number of trophies in Italy and on the continent. The 1990s saw Inter Milan fall into dark times. The Nerazzurri failed to win Serie A or the Coppa Italia.
They did win two UEFA Cups and had star players such as Ronaldo playing for the team. The 1990s were a period in which managers came and went in quick succession adding to the instability at the San Siro.
In the 2000s, fortunes changed for Inter Milan. Under the management of Roberto Mancini, the Nerazzurri returned to the pinnacle of Serie A, winning three straight championships between 2005 and 2008. In 2010, Jose Mourinho led the Nerazzurri to a treble of trophies by winning Serie A, the Champions League, and Coppa Italia.
