F1 fans have seen British legend Lewis Hamilton struggle this season. There have been a lot of issues at Mercedes as the team has failed to win a grand prix race in 2022. Despite the struggles suffered by Hamilton and Mercedes, the driver is still sixth in the standings. Eighty-eight points separate Hamilton from first-place Verstappen.

Things could be picking up for Hamilton, however. He finished third in each of the last two F1 races. Hamilton also tallied the fastest lap at the British Grand Prix. If Hamilton can continue his form, he could overall the points gap to Verstappen, making the remainder of the season a thriller.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022 When is the Race?

Who is the F1 Points Leader?

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen goes into the Austrian Grand Prix as the F1 points leader. Verstappen has won six of the 10 races thus far in 2022. Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing teammate, Sergio Perez, is second in the points table ahead of Austria. The Mexican driver has tallied 147 points. Of course, Perez is the foil to Verstappen, the reigning F1 champion. Perez is the buffer to Verstappen and he has performed well this season.

F1 2022 Season So Far

Red Bull Racing have dominated the F1 season thus far. Verstappen controversially won the F1 championship in 2021 with Lewis Hamilton being pipped to the title on the final day of the competition. Red Bull Racing have carried on from last season and the team’s two drivers, Verstappen and Sergio Perez, have been F1’s dominated forces thus far.

Ten races have been run so far in 2022. There are still 12 races left in the current campaign, which gives Hamilton plenty of time to recover. He has finished third in back-to-back races and could cut Verstappen’s lead in Austria.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2022 Betting Tips

Verstappen has been brilliant at the Red Bull Ring over the last four seasons. The Dutchman goes into the race as the bookies’ favourite, and why wouldn’t he? Verstappen has won six of 10 races this season. He finished seventh at the British Grand Prix last time out. Carlos Sainz Jr won the race after starting in pole position.

Twice this season, Verstappen has won after starting in pole position. The Red Bull driver doesn’t need to start in pole position to win, but it has helped twice. Sergio Perez, Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton should all be in the mix in Austria; but don’t count out Valtteri Bottas.

Sure, the Alfa Romero driver hasn’t finished higher than fifth this season and retired early from the British Grand Prix, but Bottas has won two of the last five Austrian Grand Prix races.

Verstappen is the driver of the moment and traditionally does well at the Austrian Grand Prix. Our betting tips prediction is for Verstappen to rebound from a poor British Grand Prix with a win at the Red Bull Ring.
