Andy Murray shocked the tennis world once more in the Australian Open second round with an incredible three-sets to two-sets win over Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Murray trailed Kokkinaksi 2-0 at one point and was on the verge of elimination. Yet, the former world No 1 somehow found a way to come back and win three consecutive sets, with the match ending at 4 AM in Melbourne, as the game went nearly six hours.

Now, Murray will play on Saturday morning UK time against Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut. Agut is the No 24 seed and will hope to prevent Murray from achieving another miraculous Australian Open 2023 win.

Murray trailed both matches in the Australian Open 2-0 before making unbelievable comebacks. He trailed Matteo Berrettini in the first round 2-0 and came from behind to win, just like in the second round versus Kokkinakis. The rule of averages states Murray cannot keep falling behind by two sets and coming back to win.

Agut is the No 25 ranked player in the world according to the ATP. He has won 11 career singles titles on the ATP Tour. The 34-year-old tennis star has never won a Grand Slam and his best performance at the Australian Open was in 2019 when he reached the quarterfinals.

Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut Betting Odds

Murray was the underdog in the first and second rounds of the Australian Open. Leading bookmakers once again have Murray as the underdog, as he plays Agut in the third round. The British tennis legend continues to fall behind early in matches but finds a way to battle back. Agut will be aware of Murray’s form and will aim to prevent collapsing as Berrettini and Kokkinakis did.

Murray is now 40/1 to win the Australian Open outright. Novak Djokovic remains the bookmakers’ favourite to win the tournament at odds of 1/1. Agut is at the best betting odds of 33/1 to win his first Grand Slam.

The winner of Saturday’s match at Melbourne Park will play either Tommy Paul or J.T. Brooksby. The section of the brack Murray and Agut are in is wide open. The two favourites in the bracket, Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini were both eliminated. Ruud was the Australian Open’s No 2 seed.

Agut is at the best betting odds of 2/7 to defeat Murray. The Spaniard isn’t a guarantee to win this match, however. He eased by Joao Sousa in straight sets in round No 1 but struggled with Brandon Holt in the second round. Agut needed five sets to win the match after losing the first two sets. He needed a little Murray magic to advance to round three.

Murray is 11/4 to win the match and progress to round four. Bookmakers have the match at odds of 5/2 to go to five sets. Based on the way Murray has played, a five-set match wouldn’t be a surprise.

Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut H2H

Murray and Agut have met six times on the tennis court. The players split the matches with three wins apiece. In 2014, they met for the first time, as Murray won a Wimbledon round of 32 fixture in straight sets. One year later, the two met in Munich on clay in the tournament’s semifinals. Murray won once more in straight sets.

In 2016, Murray defeated Agut in the finals of the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai in straight sets. Since the 2016 win, Agut has won three consecutive matches versus Murray. Agut’s three wins have come during a time in which Murray’s body has failed him due to injuries.

In 2019, Agut won a round of 128 match at the Australian Open but it took him five sets to see off Murray. Last year, the tennis players met twice, in Doha and Basel, with Agut winning both times in straight sets.

Murray has two wins and one loss in 2023. He started the campaign in the Adelaide International and lost his opening match to Sebastian Korda in straight sets. Agut also lost to Korda in the Adelaide International event. The defeat came after a win over Andrey Rublev in the previous round.

Agut also played in the Adelaide International 2 event. He reached the finals thanks to wins over Robin Haase, Alejandro Fokina, and Thanasi Kokkinakis. Agut lost the final to Soonwoo Kwon.

Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut Betting Tips

Can Murray pull off a third straight upset win at the Australian Open? You better believe there will be plenty of British tennis betters backing the Scotsman. Yet, there will be others backing Agut, as the chances of Murray pulling off a third straight upset seem slim.

Agut is on a three-match winning streak against Murray. Yes, Murray once dominated Agut in head-to-head matches. However, since 2019, Agut has outplayed Murray in three straight matches. Agut’s improvement against Murray has come alongside the Scotsman’s failing physical health. Injuries have been Murray’s biggest issue over the last few years, preventing him from playing at the same level as in years past.

Agut has a record of 248-147 on hardcourt on the ATP Tour before the Australian Open. He has collected eight tournament titles on hardcourt surfaces. Murray has a record of 483-158 before the Aussie Open. He claimed 34 titles on hardcourt surfaces.

Although Murray has been strong throughout his career on hardcourt, he is up against a player playing very well in 2023. Agut has played more matches and is in better form. Murray has had to come from behind in both matches in Melbourne. His game against Kokkinakis lasted nearly six hours and ended at around 4 AM in Melbourne Park.

Murray went five sets in the first and second rounds. He may be in great shape, but how much punishment can his surgically repaired hips take? Our betting tips prediction is for the match to go five sets with the pair going back and forth in the third-round tie. Agut should be too much for Murray in the end, as he posts a 3-2 win over Murray.
