Francisco Cerundolo begins his Wimbledon journey on Tuesday with a first-round match versus reigning French Open winner Rafael Nadal. Nadal turned back the clock at Roland Garros to win the French Open in fantastic style. Nadal will try to claim a Double Surface Slam win at the tournament.

Nadal is having a fantastic year on the ATP Tour. He won the 2022 Australian Open with a final victory against Daniil Medvedev. Nadal then won the French Open for a 14th time this season with a victory over Casper Ruud. Cerundolo will have a very difficult task of defeating Nadal.

Cerundolo turned professional in 2018 and is currently ranked No. 41 in the world. The Argentine has had an up and down 2022 season with a record of 12-10. Cerundolo has not won an ATP tournament title this season. In fact, Cerundolo has never won a tournament title on the ATP Tour. Despite being ranked No. 41 and having a decent 2022 season, Cerundolo has an overall record of 17-20 all time.

Nadal is currently ranked No. 4 in the world. The Spaniard is having a brilliant 2022 and has returned to form. He has a record of 30-3 with four tournament titles. Forget the injuries that have recently plagued Nadal. The tennis legend is back to his very best.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Rafael Nadal Betting Odds

Nadal ended 2021 early due to injuries. The decision to call it quits a season ago early has paid off for the 22-time Grand Slam winner. Nadal is having a tremendous season and will goes into the Championships as the bookies’ third-favourite to win the tournament. Nadal is 7/1 to lift the tournament’s trophy before playing in the first round.

Cerundolo, on the other hand, is 500/1 to win Wimbledon this year. The world’s No. 41 ranked player has never played in the first round of Wimbledon previously. This year’s tournament marks the furthest Cerundolo has reached since turning pro at the event. The current season can be classed as Cerundolo’s best thus far. He has a winning record in 2022 at 12-10. It isn’t earth shattering, but it is solid.

Cerundolo is also ranked the highest of his career at No. 41. The Argentine reached the first round of the French Open before being defeated. It was his best Grand Slam performance until matching it at Wimbledon. Cerundolo is a heavy underdog going into the match at the best betting odds of 12/1.

Nadal is at the best betting odds of 1/25 to win the match. There isn’t a lot of value in betting on Nadal to win. You may want to combine him into an acca or Lucky 15 to post the victory. Nadal was in fine form earlier this month in Paris. He will expect to carry that form over to Tuesday’s first round match with Cerundolo at Wimbledon. Nadal is 4/11 to win in three straight sets. Bookies’ best betting odds on both players to win a set and Nadal to win the match are at 9/4.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Rafael Nadal H2H

Tuesday’s match between Cerundolo and Nadal will be their first-ever meeting. Ahead of Nadal’s win at the French Open, a lot of the talk centered around the Spaniard’s injured foot. It took a few wins for pundits and analyst to stop talking about Nadal’s injury and to focus on his brilliance. It is unlikely that any injury issues are lingering currently.

Yes, injuries have been an issue for Nadal in recent seasons, but he is playing well and the time off at the end of 2021 has helped. Cerundolo will need all the help he can get. The Argentine’s warm-up event didn’t go well. Cerundolo lost to American Tommy Paul in the round of 32 at Eastbourne 6-4, 6-7(2), 4-6. After a bright start, the Argentine fell to defeat.

Cerundolo did reach the finals of the Santa Cruz tournament on the ATP Challenge Tour. He defeated world ranked No. 215 player Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the final to win the tournament. In addition to winning the Santa Cruz tournament, Cerundolo has reached two semifinals. Those semifinal appearances came in ATP 500 and ATP 1000 tournaments.

Wimbledon and Nadal are massive steps up in competition for Cerundolo. Nadal hasn’t played since winning the French Open final against Casper Ruud in three sets. The Spaniard should be ready when Wimbledon starts, however. Just twice previously has Nadal won Wimbledon and his last title at the All England Club came back in 2010.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Rafael Nadal Betting Tips

Nadal hasn’t reached the final at Wimbledon since 2011. It has been a tournament in which Nadal has struggled to go deep in. The French Open is Nadal’s bread and butter. He has been strong at Wimbledon, but based on history, winning the tournament may not be possible.

Cerundolo is an improving player. He is having one of his best seasons with a tournament final on the ATP Challenge Tour and two ATP Tour final appearances. Once again, Nadal is a different opponent. While Cerundolo has defeated players on the tour, he hasn’t come across anyone of Nadal’s quality.

The highest-ranked player Cerundolo has beaten this season was previous ranked No. 11 Jannik Sinner at the ATP Masters 1000 Miami. He will now take on the No. 4 player in the world and the reigning French Open winner. It will be a difficult day at the office for Cerundolo. It may also be a short one.

Our betting tips prediction is for Nadal to win the match in three sets. He shouldn’t have a problem posting the straight sets win versus Cerundolo. The Argentine may come out of the gates with all guns blazing. This is a massive stage against one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Yet, in the end Nadal will make easy work of Cerundolo in a 3-0 win. The winner will play either Sam Querrey or Ricardas Berankis in the second round.
