About Manchester City
Manchester City Club Profile
Manchester City are one of European football’s top clubs. Thanks to the backing of Sheikh Mansour, the Cityzens have risen up the ranks of football over the last decade. Once a team that bounced between the divisions, Manchester City are now a club continually fighting for league titles and European cups.
While Manchester City are currently riding a wave of highs, they have experienced enough lows to even out the two. Now, with five Premier League titles won since Sheikh Mansour bought the club, Manchester City are the English team of the 2010s and 2020s. From noisy neighbours to perennial champions, Manchester City are not going away for the foreseeable future.
About Manchester City
Manchester City were formed in 1880, but under a very different name to the one fans love and rivals hate today. The club were originally known as St. Mark's. Their founding came following an initiative by Arthur Connell, the rector of St Mark's Church, along with his daughter, Anna Connell. The club’s name changed to Gorton FC and Ardwick AFC for short periods until in 1894, when it was officially changed to Manchester City.
In 1904, Manchester City won their first trophy, the FA Cup. It was the first of six FA Cup trophies the team have now won. Manchester City experienced a great deal of success until the end of the 1930s. It was at that point the club entered a long period of decline. It also ushered in Manchester United as the most popular football club in the sports-loving city.
Over the decades of mostly despair, Manchester City bounced around the leagues, dropping as low as the third-tier of football in the late 1990s. A move to the City of Manchester Stadium - now Etihad Stadium - in 2003 ushered in a new era for the club.
Not long after, Sheikh Mansour purchased Manchester City in 2008 and began spending heavily to turn the team into one of the best – if not the best – in the world. As of May 2021, when Manchester City reached the Champions League Final, it was revealed that Sheikh Mansour had spent over £1.3 billion on players since 2008.

Since arriving at the club in 2015, De Bruyne, has tallied an unreal 107 assists and 67 goals in 262 games. De Bruyne has been the man to set up many of the goals for star players such as Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden.
Speaking of Sterling, the Englishman is an incredible talent and continues to go from strength to strength. Since arriving from Liverpool in 2015, Sterling has tallied 114 goals and 87 assists in 292 matches. Although Manchester City are likely to add more players this summer, De Bruyne and Sterling are the club’s leaders as they go in search of silverware.

Manchester City Legends
Manchester City have had some great players over the years. However, when it comes down to it, no player is as legendary as all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero. The Argentine left the club in 2021 to join Barcelona after spending 10 seasons at the Etihad Stadium. Much of Manchester City’s modern success came thanks to players such as Aguero, Vincent Kompany, and Yaya Toure. All three were pivotal in the club going from also-ran to perennial Premier League title contenders.
Howver, if you ask any Manchester City fan over a certain age, Colin Bell would be the first man they would name as the club's best ever player. The midfielder played for the cliub during he heights of the 60s and 70s sucesses scoring 155 goals ink 500 appearances for the club.

Manchester City Managers
A number of big named coaches have graced the dugout for Manchester City over the years. Currently, Manchester City are led by Pep Guardiola. A coach that many recognise as the greatest in modern football. Guardiola is the club’s greatest manager of all-time and his time at Manchester City has been relatively short. Since arriving in 2016, Guardiola averages 2.34 points per match and an over 73%-win rate.
Since Sheikh Mansour took over at the Etihad Stadium, he hasn’t been afraid to go after coaches with big reputations. Before Guardiola, the club were managed by Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini.
Legendary players have also called Manchester City home as managers. Kevin Keegan coached the team from 2001 to 2005. Former England national team manager Sven-Goran Eriksson also coached Manchester City Pre-Sheikh Mansour.
